Okay, so my little girl has been pooping on the potty since January. She turned 2 at the end of March. So she'll pee on the potty if she happens to have to pee when you put her on the potty. I can't get her to tell me when she's wet. IF she has a poop accident, she doesn't tell you she had one, she just continues playing or whatever she's doing... So I've asked her a million times gotta go potty?? sometimes it's yes other times it's a total freak out I DON'T WANT TO!!! So for some reason she decided that she wanted to wear underware so I played along, she did AWESOME! as long as we aren't home that is. She will be playing, pee and just keep playing! EWWE! If we're out, I keep telling her don't pee in your pants, tell me if you have to go, I got out of 3 days 2 times she said she had to go and then today came along. Daddy's first day home from work, we didn't go anywhere and she must have had like 8 accidents! What the heck! So now Daddy had me put her back in pullups! I dunno if that's going to do more damage than good. Is she ready for this or not?? I don't know what I'm doing here... HELP!!!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So this is Hilarious! She was potty trained 4 days after sending this out (well she still wears a night time pullup but most of the time that's dry too and she gets up to go potty) So you know how I did it? So we watch this show "Captain Planet" on Boomerang (DirecTv) and they were doing an episode about garbage and polluting the planet and how you should recycle and garbage ruins the earth and all that... So she sees it, I say Ewwe look at all the garbage you're making with these pullups!!! She says Mommy I want underwear. I say, only if you stop peeing in them. She says Okay. And has only had maybe 4 accidents in the last 3 weeks!!!! Now that is a kid that was just being a brat about going to the potty!!!!

It is definitely hard, but stick in there. You are giving her mixed messages by putting her back in the pull-up. You have to decide to stick with it or take a break. Have you tried a reward system like giving her a jelly bean when he goes. Also, she is going to have accidents, so just change her and move on. Good luck!!

I am almost a grandma now..anyday. But my daughter was much the same.. What finally worked..was when we were at home.. I discovered that if she wore a dress.. and no panties or pullup.. she hit the potti everytime without asking .. If she wore anything on the bottom at home.. she went in the pants. It took about 2 weeks for her to get the whole potti thing down.. and being as it was summer.. the dress idea worked great. For trips OUT.. still used the pull ups.. but because of HOME training, she actually began to ask more often then too. So .. once we got the potti down without bottoms.. we tried the underwear thing again.. and she was finally ready for it. Hope this helps..I know I've been away from the diaper game a while ( 8 years since I bought the last pull ups..) but it still feels like yesterday. I also had 2 boys afterward.. the last one with Down Syndrome. I've had more than my share of potti problems.. but I hope this helps you.

at 2 & 1/2 she surely knows wrong from right. Put her on that potty and don't let her off until she goes. When she has a so called accident when she's playing, don't allow her to ply..stop her right then and let her no that this is not acceptable and you will not put up with it any longer. You'll be the bad guy for a while but it will be o.k. when she sees that you're the mom, not her. Stick with it mommy. You can do it.

I'm a huge fan of NOT USING PULLUPS. Sometimes the change should be fast and quick and not using the diaper/pullup as a crutch. It feels like a diaper, I don't care if it makes them feel wet. It's just a time that you have to deal with accidents and frequent clothes changes. They will get it a lot more if they have accidents and wet clothes they can see. I used to let my girls walk around with out clothes on the bottom for awhile too.. it made it easier.

Gerber has a 'training" underware...that is cloth and is like regular underware but has a little extra material to hold a little more stuff.

Get away from the pull up...it does nothing but cause more problems. Most problems you here are when pull ups are used.

Your telling your child to go on the potty..but they are still wearing a diaper in their minds...so why bother.

Go shopping for fun underware that she likes...and mention that you don't want to pee on the pictures of (ie. little mermaid) or something.

Good luck

I agree with the Moms who say she's not ready. Both mine were closer to 3 when they were trained and it was never traumatic for them. Yes, it was still a hassle to get the whole thing done but no screaming or crying. Leave the chair out, let her sit on it if she wants (our oldest started by sitting on it while she wore her pullups to pee/poop in), let her read books on it while you go to the bathroom. You probably should completely drop the subject for now... Just relax. As far as pull ups themselves---I am a fan of them. With the new ones that have a cool sensation when they pee to the ones that still feel wet but not soaking, wew found them as helpful when the girls got closer to being fully trained. Good Luck!!

Hi, I am a mom to 3 and it has been my experience with all 3 of them that they take an interest in the potty way before they are actually ready to potty train. My first child was the learning experience. She would make all of the right potty talk, she would tell me she wanted underwear, etc... all at around 2 years old. I then began potty training and kept at it for about 10 months. I had pooped in and peed on everything! What a joke! Bottom line, when I gave up, she did it completely by herself, cold turkey, about 1 1/2 months later. I did not make the same mistake with the next two. Sometimes, just because they show interest, does not mean they are ready. 2 years old is very young. Not unheard of, but very young. While I know it can be frustrating, be very positive about all of her successes. Remember, too, all kids are different. Good luck to you and your little one!

Well, this worked with my now 16 yr old son. He wanted to wear "big boy" underwear. I took him shopping & let him pick out his "cool" underwear. He was told if he pee'd or pooped in his underwear more than once a day, he'd be back in the diaper for the rest of that day. All he had to do was tell me when he had to go, and I'd help him. Using a potty chair helps for little ones that can't get on a regular toilet on their own. They like being a "big kid" and he used to go to the potty chair on his own. I also found that using a pack of wipes also helps with the wiping part as they're not rough on little one's bottoms.

Hi S.,
I agree with the other moms, it sounds like she is not completely ready yet. I tried with my son at 2, 2,5 3 and finally at 4 he was ready to be trained and in 3 months he was completely trained day and night. I noticed when I pushed him it would backfire.
I bought an e-book for free which helped me a lot, if you want I can email it to you, just give me your email address.

It sounds like she is defiently not ready! 2 is really early to be potty trained. My son turned 3 at the end of march and is still not ready. She will let you know when she is ready, don't force her because that could lead to other issues. She is not ready yet.

Sounds like she is not ready. My little guy was able to go on the potty for literally a whole year before he was ready to do the real potty training. Maybe lay off for a while and then try again in a month or two. Good luck.

I'm a 37 year old mother of 3 (17,15, and 6). I had two in diapers at the same time so I know it can be frustrating, but I recommend keeping her in pull-ups until she's ready. She'll still feel like a "big girl" wearing pull-ups but some children are just not ready until three. Some children are just not developmentally ready to know ahead when they have to go in time and tell you until three or four. My son was in pre-K and still in pull-ups and nobody kicked him out. He's a perfectly normal 17 year old today.

Hope this helps,
T.

Just as Kerri B wrote, when I was potty training my daughter (23 years ago!!!), when I backed off, she decided it was time. I'm training my 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter now (she turned 2 the end of January), and although she still has the occasional accident - maybe one every 2 or 3 days - she's been doing awesome since I let up a little. I would not go back to pullups, because I too believe that it sends mixed messages. Just be resolved that you will be dealing with some accidents, and when you are more relaxed about it, then she will be as well, and you will see an amazing difference. Just be patient. And take a couple changes of clothing along with you when you go out!

Hi S..

I have 2 little boys and I hear it may be different with girls. But, my thought on potty training is why push it. I know we'd all like to quit paying for diapers, but maybe just wait a few months and try again. I have a 4 1/2 year old and we waited until he was 3 and had a "naked" weekend for training. From that weekend and for the next few weeks, I thought I would drive myself crazy with the question "do you have to pee?". No matter what it's tough to potty train..maybe just try again when she's 2 1/2? I just noticed that you have a 3 year old as well. Is she potty trained? I'm assuming so. Hang in there. It will happen when she's ready. :-)

We did lots of on and off potty training with my son from about 2 till he was finally trained about 2 months before he turned 3. My experience was that the pull ups were probably the WORST thing for potty training. He got the excitement of wearing "big boy" pull ups with little benefit. They tend to be too absorbant, even the wet feel ones, for him to be uncomfortable when he was wet. It sounds like your daughter just isn't really ready yet. You might put her back in diapers for a while and see if that increases her desire to try it again. Even though my son WANTED the big boy pants, he wasn't ready for them until he was older. Whe he was finally potty trained, it took only about a day in underwear (though we had tried it many times before)and it was done. Has only had even a few night time accidents in the last 18 months when I've forgotten to insist he potty before bed. Id suggest you just relax and know she knows what to do, but her body is just not ready to give her the loud "gotta go" signals that she needs. Good Luck!!

Potty training takes longer when they are young. It will come in time. It sounds like she's doing fantastic for her age, so you are doing a great job. The only advice I can offer is no pressure, potty videos (library has them for free), & potty books (again, library).

No she is not ready. Just keep it positive, calm, low pressure. rewards for trying/rewards for succeeding... (i.e. stickers, one M & M pee/two for poop, little fun songs to keep training positive, No you haven't damaged her by putting her back in pull-ups. Some kids get it - others take longer. Good luck!
