Mamma's,

There is no category for this. I love this site because people are so encouraging. So, I have a need. My son, who was involved with pot last year, has started again. I fear that he may be doing other drugs also as his behavior has drastically changed. He has now left my home. He is my only child & my heart. It's always been him & I. I am now following the tough love route. I haven't spoken/texted him in 3 days (seems like 3 years) & I know it will probably be even longer. He stole from me, betrayed me, deceived me & lied to me. My heart is breaking & I cry every day. I guess what I am asking for is any advice & lots of prayers.

Thank you.

What can I do next?

Dear Kaitlin,

Many prayers for you and your strength and for your son's safety. You are doing the right thing and I commend you for being wise enough to do what you're doing. Remember the father from the prodigal son story from the Bible...he had to do exactly what you are but it is what helped his son the most...it's hard to let him lie with "pigs" like the story goes but it may take that for him to come back home willing to do better. Stay strong...God will pull you through these hard days.

I would strongly recommend that you recieve counseling to help YOU through this difficult time. Perhaps a professional would also be able to offer you guidance regarding how to best interact with your son. I don't mean to scare you - but I worked at the senior high school, and know that there are parents whom wish they had sought professional council to avoid the way their stories proceeded, and in one case - ended. The current path you and your son have taken could only improve, so I hope you will consider outside help to assist you with this very difficult situation.

If cost is an issue, there are United Way (sliding scale) options - or, if he is still school age - talk to the counselor.

I truly hope that you find a way to help your son, and yourself. I admire you for being able to reach out for support - that in itself takes strength.

My prayers are with you and your son. I pray that God will give you the strength and guidance and your son will find the strength to overcome. I echo the other responders about finding help for You too.

Kaitlin,
Prayers go your way and also kuddos for the "tough love" approach. They don't call it that for no reason....it's tough...terribly so. May God bless you and I will be praying for you and your son in all things.

You, your son and your family are definitely in my prayers. My sister is going through something simular with her son. It is scary, frustrating and heartbreaking. I agree with the other moms, get help. No only for your son, but for you. You may have already done this, but it is worth mentioning. Her son's therapist recommended a Christian "home" for kids in trouble (one on a ranch that offers counceling, a school, etc). She wishes now she did it b/c he is now 17 (one year later) can't get in anymore, and still has the same problem (OD'd a couple of weeks ago). There are also non-Christian homes like this and most are paid on a sliding scale.

Sorry, I didn't mean to get off on that. I hope that the tough love works and that he is home soon. Again, you are in my prayers. ((((HUGS))))

Hi Kaitlin,
I am praying for you and your son! You are doing the right thing and as a Mother... you already know that. Please stay strong, I know this is a very painful time for you. As a teenager (MANY years ago) who used drugs, he will come around and realize where the love is. I did and am now a successful businesswoman, wife and mother.

Write me if you want to talk :-)
