Pregnant and Have a Thrombosed Hemorrhoid--Help!

I had multiple external ones I had to have a surgery to drain. It was painful afterwards, but NOTHING compared to the pain prior to the surgery. I was told to take lots of hot sitz baths 5+ a day.. which worked amazingly well.. try that. It made a world of difference in how I healed and how the pain disappated. good luck.. it's the worst pain I've ever had and I have had a bleeding ulcer which I was hospitalized for along with 2 csections. total healing time after surgery 2+wks to heal completely

I am just here for the "encouragement" part, as I have suffered hemorrhoids with pregnancy, too. I don't think people who have never had them can begin to relate to the pain and discomfort they cause. I hope you find a remedy that brings you comfort soon!

I have heard of this as it happened to my best friend though they did not talk about surgery with hers. Anyway, she used HypnoBirthing the childbirth education class which helped her relax and focused. She used the method which helped ease her hemorrhoids prior to birthing and was able to have a beautiful birth too (she was so scared this would flair up again after birth due to the birthing process). I just have that advice as it helped her before, during, and after birth. I feel for you as that is sooooo uncomfortable and just not necessary with everything else going on with your body. I'm so sorry that you are having to go thru this. I know you're in pain but please do yourself a favor and try NOT to have surgery. The spinal thing scares me as those spinal headaches are much more common than doctors let on and having your spine messed with is no small thing. Often there are herbal and natural remedies that people are unaware of until they have tried everything else. Have you tried:
*getting more B6 in your diet? Lack of it contributes to hemorrhoids in pregnancy and most pregnant women are deficient.
*Homeopathic remedy Hamamelis 30x
*applying grated, raw potato to ease swelling and pain
*applying Comfrey or Yellow Dock Root ointment to reduce swelling, stop bleeding and ease pain.
*inserted a peeled clove of garlic (which may be wrapped in one layer of gauze and oiled) into rectum overnight to minimize swelling (natural antibiotic action also)
*used a Plantain and Yarrow ointment to relieve pain immediately and to shrink hemorrhoids within a few days. (This particular salve has restored normalcy to some women who have been incapacitated for years.)

Eliminate even severely swollen, protruding and bleeding hemorrhoids with herbal sitz baths. Witch Hazel (not the liquid solution w/ alcohol--the dry herb) is the best herb for this but Plantain leaves, Comfrey root, White Oak bark, Sea Grape leaves/bark or other strong astringents may be substituted.
Prepare an infusion of the herb (make a tea), making 8 cups (4oz of one of the dried herbs above in a half gallon of boiling water, steeped for 8 hours). Strain the liquid from the herbs and pour it into a shallow basin or pan. Sit in it for 15 min at least twice a day. Don't worry about getting the hemorrhoid wet; the herbs are absorbed thru the skin and work their magic w/o direct contact. Most people experience pain relief with the first sitz bath, and the hemorrhoids often shrink and disappear w/in a few days. This may be repeated as often as you wish, using the same liquid over and over.

I got this info from a book called, "Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year" so I know the remedies are safe for pregnancy. This book helped me when nothing else did!

You can get these strange sounding herbs and concoctions at small health food stores and even some at Whole Foods. There are a few little health food stores in the area--email me if you need more info.

P.S. Hang in there if you experience stinging with the first 2 applications of any hemorrhoid treatment--it's actually a good indication that the treatment is working and that they are starting to shrink!

Well, I have been waiting years to share this advice: DON'T HAVE THE SURGERY! I had the exact same situation with my second pregnancy only I was in my 8th month. So I know the pain you are in. Believe me, as bad as it hurts now, thats nothing compared to what it will feel like post surgery. See the problem is that you cannot just close that area down until you can recover from surgery. So it doesn't take a whole lot of imagination to figure out what that first post procedure BM is going to feel like. Worse than labor - especially b/c you will be taking pain killers to get you thru the surgical pain so chances are you will be constipated etc etc. And that post surgical pain is INTENSE. You cannot take enough pain killer to deal with it b/c of the baby. In my case I picked up some bacterial thing and completed my ordeal with 3 weeks of diarrhea followed by a hospitalization for dehydration. Fortunately my daughter came out happy and healthy....but that episode changed me forever. Now I really know what pain can be. Give yourself a chance to improve with the lesser remedies. Good luck!

I did not have this particular issue but I had to have a procedure each time I was pregnant (cerclage) which required a spinal. The spinal was not that big of a deal. The worst part was waiting for it to wear off - you're completely numb from your mid-section down for about 2-5 hours after. The other bad thing was that my lower back hurt so terribly bad for about 2 days and I was really uncomfortable. Once the spinal wore off and the back pain went away, things were back to normal. My first baby was not affected in any way by the spinal and I'm confident that my second child will be fine too. Good luck to you and hope you receive some relief soon.
