12 weeks is pretty standard. :)
hey guys, i'm 8 weeks pregnant and it looks like i won't be able to see my ob/gyn until at least november. by then i will be close to 12 weeks if not further along. she doesn't have anymore openings this month and apparently no one else in the office, either. so should i wait until next month or try a different office? by the way it is greenbrier ob/gyn and i love dr. ferebee, but it does take forever before you are actually seen. so for those who recommend going to another doctor's office, any recommendations in the greenbrier area of chesapeake? preferably those who take care tricare standard. thanks!

Hi J.,
My name is E. and I am relatively new to this community.
I am a SAHM with two little ones 3/ 1/2 and 2. I wanted to share with you the name of my OB/GYN when I was pregnant with my daughter who is almost 4.
I was with the Group for Women. I had Dr. Puritz and she was great. Pretty much you get to see the same doctor but at the end they like you to get to know some of the other docs just in case your doctor can't be there to deliver the baby. They have an office near Chesapeake General. Their email is www.thegroupforwomen.com and they take Tricare.

With my daughter (who is 2) I didn't get my first appt. until I was 13 weeks. And there was no problems. I'm also pregnant again, (9 weeks), and I won't be getting my first appoint ment until 11 weeks. Other than the fact that it is exciting, there really is no problem with waiting. Especially if you have a Dr. you like! I have to wait, and it's for a whole clinic of Dr.'s I don't even know. So count your blessings there. You'll be fine. Good luck, and congrats
If I were you I wouldn't wait. You'll already be at the end of your first trimester...
I highly recommend Dr. Pirkle at The Group for Women. I don't know all of the insurances that they accept. But they are truly wonderful! I've seen several Doctors in the practice and they are all good. But Dr. Pirkle is Fantastic.
Hi, I would also recomend just waiting for your doctor unless you feel something is wrong and you need to be checked out sooner.
I also go to the group for women and Dr Purtiz is my doctor. I just love her to death. If I remember correctly I did not get seen til I was about 12 weeks or so.
Well anyway good luck with everything and congratulations on your pregnancy.
If you are comfortable with that doctor, then wait. It's not like they really are doing anything in the first trimester or so.
I personally prefer midwives. I see the midwives of Blessed Birth Services. They only do homebirths and I know not everyone is okay with that. There is a way to get Tricare Prime or Standard to cover it, too. Or rather reimburse you for it.
I would say if you really lik your Dr then wait it out. Most Drs dont want to see you until you are that far along anyway. I dont think it is big issue unless you are having problems. You can even get prenatals otc. Congrats and Good Luck!
Try Virginia Center for Women if you want to try another one. They never keep you waiting and I love all the doctors though my fave is Dr. Gray, than Geary. I have used them twice. They are on volvo so pretty close to Greenbrier. If you need anymore help or details let me know and congrats. Also I have been where you are. I was supposed to go to Porthsmouth Navel, though I live in Chesapeake, but they would't see me until I was 13 weeks (thank goodness), Virginia Center for Women took us in with no problem and felt so bad covered our co-pay for our first child the whole way. They deliver at Chesapeake General.

I'm almost 19 weeks pregnant but I had to wait for my first visit too. I was 14 weeks when they saw me. At first I called around to several different ob/gyn's but they all said that I would have to wait. As long as you have your prenatal vitamins (they can call some in for you), and are feeling good about the doctor and youself you will be fine.
