Hi

I stay in algonquin, and looking for a new preschool for my son who will be 4 in dec. He is quiet smart for his age right now. Want something more challenging for him. He knows his letter, phonics, needs help in writing skills. Anyone heard about childrens world preschool prog. If any other schools around the area which are good please advice. When should one put their child for Karate?

What can I do next?

I know that the Barlina House preschool in Crystal Lake has an excellent reputation but that they often have a bit of a waiting list. this is their website http://www.crystallakeparks.org/barlinaweb/index.html

I also know that there is a preschool fair at the Crystal Lake Library every year but I would imagine that it may be in the summer sometime.

My son just started Pre-K in The Einstein Academy in Elgin (right of I 90 & Rt 31) and he absolutely loves it! They go one grade above public school curriculum (so now they are going over Kindergarten books). They have many fun and interesting things that they are doing every day (swimming, art, Latin...). However, the school year just started, so you might need to wait until the next year to enroll him there.

When it comes to Karate, my son took it in the summer (he was 4 in March, so is little bit older than your son) and he did pretty good. It is very personal preference, because the teacher did not want parents in the classroom while the class was in session and the kids that disturbed the class had to do push ups. But I would still recommend it.

Let me know if you'd like any more detail on any of this.
Thanks!
M.

My girls go to a great school on the north side of elgin. It is quite pricey but worth it. I think that when I checked out the preschool a couple of years ago it was about $450 a month. My daughters all started there in kindergarten but their preschool is awesome. It is much more academic than regular preschools but the kids still have lots of fun and time to enjoy themselves. It goes from pre thru 8th grade. The name of it is Fox River Country Day school. Quite a few people who live in algonquin go there. Their website is www.frcds.org.

I would look into The Learning Tree. I am actually a preschool teacher at the Elgin-West location. I feel we have a very nice program that balances play--which children need so much to learn--and academics. I have been to a couple of Children's Worlds and was not very impressed with the interactions between staff and children. The Learning Tree has a website too:

thelearningtreechildcare.com

Good luck!
