At what age do kids start going to preschool - is it 3 or 4? And can anyone recommend a great one in the Brookfield/LaGrange area?

Our preschool would be willing to take kids at 2 years, 10 months old as long as they are potty trained. The odd thing is that they would be in with the 3s and then then next level up would be 4s. They will not be able to start "real school" until they are 5, so if you choose to enroll them earlier, they may very well have to repeat either the 3s or the 4 year old class (unless of course you keep them out of school the last year).

Does that make sense? It happened with us. My son turned 3 in January, so he attended the last 1/2 of the 3s and then the next year, we had a choice for him to stay in 3s or move him to 4s. We opted to keep him in 3s since he was only technically 3.5.

My friend taught at Kensington for almost 10 years and loved the teachers, curriculum, everything. She's considering sending her daughter there, but first she's trying to see if there's something comparable closer to home (it would be a 30 min drive each way for 2 hours of preschool).

Oh- it seems most children we know start at 3. Our son started at 3 and loved it!

My daughter started preschool at 3.5, and loves it. I feel she has learned so much!! She is at Grand Avenue Preschool in La Grange Highlands.

We live in the city, and it varies. Many, many kids start at age 3. We wanted our son to start at 3, but we just couldn't get him potty trained in time and that was a requirement at the schools we applied to (and I think it is for most preschools unless they are part of a daycare...)
