So What Happened?

Well I thought that you would all like to know that my daughter and I make a peanutbutter sandwich shaped like the letter "E" and we also took google eye glasses. The kids all liked that and it was fun for Lauren and I.

OH this should be fun. You could do several things.

1. Elmo Cookies
2. Elephant Snacks (elephants like peanuts you could bring nutter butters)
3. EEEWWWYYY GOOY Chocolate Pudding
4. Extremely Big Cookies
5. Eggo Waffles
6. E Bread (make buscuits in the shape of an E and add Jelly)

Good luck. Let me know what you end up doing.

WOW!! That's a hard one. Maybe you can use the words extra special or extreme and put it together with cookies or trailmix (raisins, M & M's and dry cereal) in little snack baggies. GOOD LUCK!!!!

How about elephant animal crackers--depending on how many kids there are, you could actually go through animal crackers and pick out all the elephants? Not sure if this is an option or not, but you could make Jello Jiggles and use a cookie cutter to cut them out in the shape of an E. Hope this helps!

How about Edamame? (Soy beans) They're healthy and they can even learn a little culture... They're in the freezer section. You can eat them raw or cook them.

It would be the perfect time for a Halloween snack, whereas you could find "eyeballs"--Brach's has chocolate eyeballs, lollipop eyeballs. Being a teacher myself, this would be a great lesson for the kids to learn that not all words that begin with e either make the short e or long e sound. It may begin with e, but it doesn't sound like e. Teaching first grade, the kids have to learn all the "ifs, ands, or buts" about our language... there are so many exceptions to the rules! Just have fun with it! I also like the elephant cookie idea. You could either pick out all the elephant crackers (from animal crackers) or elephant cookies (from the iced animal cookies) or just make your own. Please tell us all what you decided... I'd love to know what creative idea you choose.

Alphabet Cookies

For preschoolers, learning the basics of letters and words can begin with B for baking. These edible letters--small sugar cookies with a letter on each one--can be used as spelling aids, word game pieces, or special treats (Who wouldn't love to snack on her name after school?). To make a batch, follow our recipe or bake some of your favorite sugar cookies.
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter or margarine (softened)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

In a medium bowl, blend together the sugar, shortening, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Roll the dough into three cylinders (each about 1 inch in diameter), cover, and refrigerate for at least one hour.

When the cookies are cool, help your child use a tube of gel icing to inscribe a letter on each one. The most commonly used letters in the English language are A, E, I, S, and T, so be sure to make a few extras. The least commonly used are Q, X, and Z, so one of each should suffice.

With a stockpile of cookies, you and your child are ready to play all sorts of spelling games. One word of warning: good spellers can win themselves stomachaches if they eat all their rewards at once. A container for each player, suitable for holding extra cookies for the next several days, helps keep kids from overindulging.

SPELLING GAMES
I SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE: One player spots an object in the room, spells it with the cookie letters, and covers them with a napkin so no one else can see. The second player then may ask ten Yes or No questions. If he guesses the object, he gets to eat the cookies. If he guesses incorrectly, the speller eats them.

HANGMAN: This variation on the classic game has one twist--if the guesser spells the word before the hangman is drawn, she can gobble up the letters.

BUILD A WORD: In this game, players build a word together. The first player puts down any one of her letters; the second player takes the next turn and can put down any letter too, as long as the pair she forms actually could be the beginning of a real word. If the first letter was T, for example, the second player could not put down an X. Players could, however, start with a T followed by an R, then a U, C, and K. The point is not to finish the word; the player who places down the last letter forfeits her cookies.

lol, what a bum deal! egg plant? kidding...what about devilled eggs? Kids always like devilled eggs and she can just call them "eggs" so she has the "e" taken care of. I will keep thinking.

Fresh Eggplant sliced into "fries" with a cheese dip is really good!
Eggs Hardboiled
Eggs on an English Muffin! Yum! might want to add some cheese too, just for more fun!
Vitamin E [Vital Nutrition] is fat-soluble and an antioxidant, helping to prevent fats and oils from becoming rancid. It is the most common vitamin found in nature and is lacking in processed foods.
Kids 1-3 need 6 mg of Vitamin E Daily, Kiddos 4-8 need 7 mg/daily.
Egg Nog
Endive Salad
Eclairs - also high in Vitamin E!
Check out this website. This is from the USDA. I thought you might find some ideas here on foods that maybe have High Vitamin E and be able to explain why our bodies need that. The kiddos would find that interesting too! http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/Data/SR18/nutrlist/...
Have fun with the project and let me know if I can help you further.
Best Wishes,
L.

How about something Elmo-shaped like fruit snacks or crackers? I haven't seen these, but would guess they are available. Elephant-shaped animal crackers?
