I am looking for a probiotic for my 10 week old daughter. She is breastfed and only has a bottle of pumped milk every so often. She gets bad gas.

Can anyone recommend a good brand and suggest how i should give it to her? Should I give her a bottle once a day for it? Or i have read to dip a clean finger in it and let her suck it?

What can I do next?

I would ask a dr. 10wks seems really young to be giving anything other than breastmilk. Breastmilk is 100% complete food for infants. If she is getting gas from breastmilk, try limiting gas-inducing foods in your diet first.

Your breast milk should have everything she needs.
It's so digestible it needs no help.
If she's having gas, watch what you are eating.
Something's passing into your milk that she's sensitive to.
Giving her some gas drops should be fine.

Bio Gaim(I might have the last part wrong) is the probiotic that our pediatrian recommended for my baby when she was 3 or 4 weeks old. You get it from the pharmacy but without a prescription. Apparently it works wonders on gas but I never tried it because every pharmacy was always sold out. My baby only had a couple of days of gas pain and then she was fine so I didn't bother ordering it. I would ask your pediatrician about it mine highly recommended it and said it can really aliviate discomfort. My baby was EBF too.

YOU should eat more yogurt and probiotics and it will go through the breastmilk to her. Try to stick to food ones. Also if she is gassy then you should look at your diet to see if there is a pattern so you can eliminate that food. For one of my kids it was milk, for the other is was pears. Yep, pears.

My pediatrician has recommended Florastor kids (they are packets that are mixed into liquid). However, this has been suggested to me after my kids have had a bout of diarrhea, not due to gas. I would ask your ped. Good luck!

It may not be that she needs a probiotic. My dd had bad gas b/c my milk came out SO fast. It was able to squirt 3-4' out during let down. It's called over active letdown and is relatively common. My lactation consultant told me to discharge the initial letdown into a cloth diaper or something until it calmed down to the hind milk and then my dd could nurse. It worked great and the gas went down considerably! If you still want a probiotic, just put it on your finger and let her suck it off. The gas relief drops work amazingly well too...there is also gripes water - more natural. Congrats on your baby and nursing! Keep it up mama! :)

Jarro-Dophilus comes in capsules that you can open and close them. You can wet your finger with a drop of water and add a just a little powder to a plate and then add a bit to your finger and then either finish the capsule yourself or close up the capsule again to use it for another day.

I bought mine from Whole Foods. My pediatrician has recommended this brand since my kids were just a few months old and I was nursing as well.

Just make sure you keep the bottle in the fridge.

Good luck!
