Wanting to limit computer time with a PROGRAM or PRODUCT that boots the person off after the allotted time. NOT my voice.
Thank you Molly. You were one of only a handful that truly read the message. I am not looking for parenting advice. I am looking for computer and program advice. I want to be able to manage minutes and rewards. I have a farm with major outdoor chores. Some days I am out there for 9 hours straight. It would be foolish to remove all my muddy clothes, run into the house every hour trying to juggle which kid is on when, what game etc. when there are programs or internal computer alarms that will allow me to set it in advance and have consistency. I am not computer savy, hence the question on here. I do not have a problem utilizing technology as a tool to help us keep track of things.

And I don't know why all the vitrol in the responses about having a program like that. If you install it on a tablet for certain video games you can essentially use it to give minutes on certain beloved games as rewards for chores or what not, or put the games in time out as a consequence.
It's actually pretty cool.

With my kiddos, if there was an issue, I told them time was up...period.
I had one son that thought I was not serious...so I cut off the connection for a few days.
He took me pretty seriously after that...lol.

Around here it was a timer and when daughter heard it she knew to sign off or the privilege of signing on again would no longer be there.
It's parenting without mechanical get ups to do the job for you.
Who would spend $$ on something like that? Gees... I'll patent my timer and market it to ppl who gave to have some concoction to sign off!!
If it's not your children... Set a timer but that's called self control. Any adult should be capable to step away from the screen for a while.

Our computer has a built in program. It keeps track of all the time used and then asks for the master password to get more time. We don't use it, but most newer tablets and software packages have it built in.
I wouldn't pay for that.
Maybe, there is something like that.
Maybe public or corporate type software exists for that.
I personally have not google searched it.
We are a tech family. My Hubby is in the field.
With our kids we just tell them rules.
And my saying "Okay stop, get off the computer in 2 minutes..." is enough.
They do it.

Our desk top has that option in the programming. It's windows Xp. Search the programs and find it. Our computer gives them a 15 minute warning then they get a screen when time is up. It gives them the option of more time in a drop down box. An adult has to enter a code and select the additional minutes for the computer to come back on their log in name.
Once their time is done for that time period they can't get back on until they have scheduled time.
For instance one of the kids can be on the computer from 10am to noon, the other one can be on from 1-3, then the first one can get on again at 4-6 and the other one from 6-8.
They cannot get on when it's not time for their own log in to be on. They don't know each others passwords and they do NOT know the adult password to get more time.
IF we give them more time it's because they did extra chores and earned it.
It depends on the system you're using. Kindles have built in timers so my kids can read in bed and the kindle shuts off after whatever time. I don't have to go in or debate with them or risk making them more alert if the reading has made them drowsy. It gives them a bit of independence, too. They know they're done. It can be set for games or videos or music, too. My son dislikes it, though, because it shuts off without allowing him to finish a level or chapter, so we really don't use it much. They've learned that when I say they're done, they're done.
