We are going to be moving soon, during summer break in July. we are not sure of the exact location yet, we are looking at a few different places.
My question is, how do you enroll your child in a school when they are closed for the summer?

What can I do next?

Call the administration building for that school district and ask about it, but they are there quite a few days after school lets out and before school officially starts. I think principals get a short vacation sometime in the middle.

If you know the school district you will be in you can get the info ahead of time. but if your not sure of the actual neighborhood you can't. But the schools always have a week or 2 before school opens taht the office will be open so you can register new students. Most won't let you do it til your actually in the district as you have to show utility bills as part of your registration stuff.

Schools aren't typically, actually CLOSED for the summer. They just aren't holding classes. The main office will be open for enrollment during the summer.

As soon as you have a documented address (a signed lease or title to your house), contact the school (or the district) and find out what you need to do to enroll.

Often schools have limited hours during the summer, like 9am to 1pm, but they are usually open at least SOME portion of the day.

Schools & admin offices are typically open year round. Just call the district. :)

District offices are open all year. Check the website, they should have all of the enrollment information you need. Many will have the forms posted in PDF files for you to download, as well as FAQ's that can be helpful.

Good luck with your move- hope everything goes smoothly for you!

Schools are open for limited hours during the summer. Once you are committed to a house and know for sure the school, give the office a call and tell them you just moved in and you need to register your child. They will tell you what to do. Easy peasy.

You wait until the schools open to enroll them.

You call the admin office and find out when the schools are open for enrollment day. They may even have it published at the end of July or start of August.

Who knows, you might even be moving into a school area that has summer school and might be open.

You could call the admin office now too. If you know the town you'll be moving to. Or even if you have a couple of choices, like in OKC you could live in Moore, MidWest City, Mustang, Edmond, Del City, all those towns only have a street separating them from each other. If you aren't familiar with the geographic divisions you may be calling the wrong admin office but they do tend to do lots of stuff the same time. Like Spring Break, first day of school, general activities. It can't hurt to find out now if you have any idea where you are moving to.

I would think you'd wait til August when it's time for school to start & enroll them then. I'm sure there will be announcements in the paper or on the schools website when school will start. Other posters may have better info for you but that's what I'd think would happen. Or if that's not an option, perhaps once you've chosen a location, ask around. If you attend church, surely someone there would be able to help you by either knowing the answer or helping you find out.
