Random Fevers in Toddler

Hi moms,
my 19 month old has random fevers every few weeks for no apparent reason. Sometimes she runs a 99 and then other times she will run 103 to 104!!! I figured the 99 may be related to teeth but the higher ones Im not so sure about. No coughing slight runny nose. She isn't pulling on her ears no vomiting no diariahha. Just fever. She is in daycare. Could this just be her immune system fighting off the illnesses of daycare? Could it be allergies? I have taken her to the doctor and they can't seem to find anything wrong. When I don't take her, the fever eventually goes away after a few days. Any suggestions? Or ideads of what this might be?

What can I do next?

My son does this all the time and I think it's just fighting off viruses that he picks up at school. If it persists for me than 3 days or is really high call the doctor.

Also, 99 is not considered a fever in a toddler. Above 99 and below 101 is considered a low-grade fever and isn't usually supposed to be treated. Anything over 101 is cause for some concern, but it's not that bad until it's over 103.6. Here is a link that explains some of it http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/childhood-illnesses/fever.

This happened to my daughter around the same age. It turned out she had a raging ear infection and the random fevers were the only sign. Made me feel like the world's worst mother!

My son had that too. He eventually grew out of it.

I would start tracking it on a calendar: when it starts and how high (or low) the fever is and how long it lasts. It is probably nothing, but my son has been dealing with on and off fevers since he was one. He is now eight. Look up "cyclic neutropenia", it is referenced many times on this website. And "stomatitis" which is a viral infection that lives within their bodies causing mouth ulcers and fevers. These were the explanations I got from his doctors. There is nothing that can be done, and eventually they will grow out of it. We are still waiting! My son had gone a couple of months recently without a fever, but just started up again back in April and it seems to come on a Thursday and is gone by Sunday every four weeks. Nothing over a 101, just enough to give him the chills, no other symptoms unless I find an ulcer in his mouth. He is fine otherwise and I don't take gim to the doctor unless it goes higher than 102 or lasts longer than 3 days. I used to bring him every time when he was younger and they would just tell me "viral" and send us home. It is frustrating, but you learn to deal. He does occasionally get a 104 or 105, but we are used to that as well.
Good Luck.

This used to happen to my son. I figured his body was just fighting off some type of virus and he had a healthy immune system and didn't become really sick. He is nearly seven now and this doesn't really happen anymore.

My son had this happen. Turned out to be one of two things:
1. strep
2. had developed food allergies. Kept a food journal, went to allergist for test and he tested off the charts for the one of the suspect foods - pears. which the school served every 2 weeks.

I agree with the other answers...probably just something she picked up at daycare. In fact, my DD is at home today with a "random" 102 (so far) fever. She probably gets them every 2 or 3 months. Here's hoping both our girls grow out of it! :)

Little ones are exposed to all kinds of random cooties. Especially given that she is in daycare. It's great that she fights them off easily without feeling bad. Her body is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. No worries mom.

It's probably just your baby's body fighting little viruses. My baby always gets everything her sister brings home from school. You should ask your doctor for guidelines: when to call him, how many days of consecutive fever, when to just go to the clinic and hospital... Good luck :)
