Rash - Mount Laurel,NJ

We discovered our daughter was allergic to cashews (she had had peanut butter before with no reactions) when she was around 3 years old. It happened totally by accident as hubby thought I was giving her cashews but didn't see the bowl of raisins on the counter. In her case, she broke out in a rash on her face as well as mild swelling in her cheeks. We immediately took her to the ER. She was fine but the rash took a few days to disappear. Later she had some allergy testing done and they said she was only allergic to cashews but told us to hold off on any tree nuts until she was closer to 5. As I found out these nut allergies along with being very serious are also very tricky and anything is possible (developing later, etc). I would say call your Doc and see what they think and if allergy testing should be set up.

I've never experienced this, but peanut allergies are usually sever. It may be coincidence.
Wait awhile,when the rash goes away try giving her peanuts again and see what happens. It could be the rash was from something else. My dad is allergic to peanuts, and if he ingests one his throat swells shut, and his face bloats like crazy! keep an antihistamine on hand to be safe.

It took 4-7 days. My kids and I were allergic and each reaction got worse and they were all different. I wasn't allergic to peanuts but developed an allergy when I was 36 years old. We had all of our allergies cleared with acupuncture. I'm so glad too because if I ate something that touched a peanut, I'd get very sick and couldn't breathe etc. It was hard to manage. But now I'm totally symptom free and so are my kids. Whew! Good luck!

The only way to know for sure if she's allergic to peanuts is to do allergy testing. My granddaughter and I are allergic to peanuts (been tested). Our reactions are more related to breathing and an itchy throat and ears or an upset stomach. I've seen hives as an allergic reaction and they're usually on the trunk.
