I have a five year old girl,that is constantly picking her underwear out of her crotch. Don't know what to do about it.She says it bothers her. Recently she has gotten rashes. I bought her bigger underwear. That didn't help. Don't know exacly what the problem is? She is alittle bit on the fuller side. she's not fat but she is a solid kid,and her inner legs touch. Has anyone had this problem before?
Thanx for all the advice. I will try the corn starch,new detergent and maybe the boxers. she is wearing cotton,and it's not a yeast infection. It's a rash on the outside of the area, just like a butt rash. The baby rash ointments do make it go away. If that doesn't work I'll take her to the doctor.
could she be allergic to soap or bubble bath? when i was a kid, I did not have the best of experiences with Mr. Bubble! and it caused the itching down there.
I haven't read other responses but sounds like a yeast infection. Frequent in summer heat and/or eating too many sweets. You also should NOT put her in bubble baths - they contribute to it. You can get over the counter medication. They have the pill for adults...not sure if kids can do that. Good luck.
Try changing the Laundry Detergent to scent free she might be allergic to it. My Daughter was.
Sounds most definitely like a yeast infection. 1) Cotton undies only. 2) No tight pants. Loose items or skirts for a few days. 3) Only water and a bit of white milk to drink. No juice, koolaid or flavored milk. They're loaded in sugar and yeast thrive on sugar. 4) Very easy on the starches, carbs and sugars, aka candy. 5) Yogurt is a girl's best friend. 6) NO BUBBLE BATHS.

Sounds like a yeast infection. My daughter was a little on the heavier side, and it was difficult for her to wipe when she was little so she would sometimes get them. You need to see her doctor to rule this out.
I haven't read the other responses, but I just learned last week girls are not suppose to bathe with soap. My daughter loved bubble baths and had 2 yeast infections back to back. The doctor finally asked me if she takes a bath or shower (she was only 2)... of course I said bath and she asked if I add soap to the water. Of course, I said yes, doesn't everyone and she said females are not suppose to take a bath with soap as it can cause yeast infections at any time. Since then, we still give her a bath, but don't add soap. When we wash her privates, we quickly rinse it off with fresh water and don't allow her to sit in the tub full of water. So far, so good. No itching.
You can take a look at her privates and if it looks hot pink, she has a yeast infection. Good luck.
My daughter had picked her undies out of her crotch too - that combined with wiping issues gave her a bacterial infection. We've been wiping her with hydrogen peroxide and then putting A&D ointment before she goes to bed - it has done wonders! Good luck!
My daughter never had a rash but was also picking at her underwear. I finally bought her the girls boxer underwear and so far that has helped. I have seen her do it alittle since then but some of it I think is habit.
Make sure her undies are cotton, fit well and wash them in dye/scent free detergent. And don't overuse detergent--then it won't rinse out as well. hth
So, she is picking her underwear out of her crotch? Which may have caused the rash... or the rash is causing her to pick her underwear out of her crotch...
My daughter, does that too sometimes, she just tells me that her underwear gets up in between her crotch crevice. Like how sometimes it can do that in the butt area too.
But that is my daughter. She has no yeast infection or rashes or itches etc. She is just more 'conscious' of her underwear riding up... into her crotch area.
And she does wear only 100% cotton panties and it is the right size for her but her inner thighs do not touch.
Just ask your daughter... why she does that.
That is what I did with my daughter.
BUT for your daughter, take her to the Doctor to check the "rash."
She could have an infection or yeast infection.

Is she wiping good after going potty? Is she wiping from front to back? I would suggest washing the area with some antibacterial soap and rinsing and drying well and apply a light dusting of corn starch, not talc and see if that helps. Also, don't wear the panties to bed. Go open to air and see if that doesn't help it resolve. She might be allergic to elastic, any rash where the band is? Hope this helps!
Put a little desitin cream or hemorrhoid cream on the area over night and see if that stops the itching. The itching will lead to more itching. I had a horrible itch just from leaving a wet bathing suit on too long. Yikes. I used hemorrhoid cream because that worked better then the desitin. If the rash doesn't go away ask the doctor about it.
If she's not wearing 100% cotton, try switching to that. It's possible synthetic fabrics are irritating her skin or not allowing enough breathing.
Does it seem like the rashes are caused by the picking or that she's picking because there's a rash? If the latter, it's probably a good thing to ask a doctor.
Where is the rash? She might need to learn to wipe better if it's in 'that' area. Maybe get her some babywipes to use and have her check to make sure the wipes are clean before she is finished.
She might also have a vaginal yeast infection. Does she get bubble baths? Be sure to give her a high quality probiotic to help re-establish the good flora in her gut. The all cotton panties will help there as well.
