Hi K.,

The reason I answered you is because you said you haven't changed any soaps or diet or anything. Changes don't need to be made in order to have a reaction. If he is absorbing toxicities they are bound to show up eventually. I'm not saying that it is a toxic reaction but most people do believe that if something doesn't bother you at first...or even for months and years....that it is safe. Synthetic chemicals react and contraindicate. A new pesticide in the baby food could contraindicate with a different preservative in the same laundry detergent.

Topically I always go to high grade tea tree oil because it absorbs deep and is not only antiseptic but antibacterial and antifungal. If it is toxicities a cleansing of the digestive system may help. The only way you can really do that at his age is a little prune juice everyday. Everyone should "go" after every meal....even little ones. That's the only way to keep clean.

If it is this, it's an easy fix. If you can't get to the bottom of this soon...see someone else about it. No one is perfect and that includes our favorite doctors.

God bless,

M.

It really sounds like hand foot and mouth disease. My son has had it several times. There are several strains of it so the symptoms vary as far as which ones are seen, but always the same symptoms. There is nothing to treat it. The incubation period is anywhere from 5-10 days. Nothing to be concerned about, but it is highly contagious among children. You may want to wash any toy he puts in his mouth, and I always brushed my son's teeth in hopes of getting rid of it faster by keeping a clean mouth. Look it up on wikipedia if you're curious.

OMG, don't ever CLEANSE a baby unless your doctor tells you to do it! How scary and dangerous!!! It is NOT normal to have a BM after every meal. Who does that? Please beware of that advice!!!

I agree with the hand/foot/mouth (AKA coxackie virus, I believe.) If that is what it is, there is nothing really you can do about it but try to keep him eating and drinking soft things and lots of fluids. I'd probably take him in to your pediatrician on Monday. Most basic ERs are not so great on pediatric issues. Good luck!

I also think it sounds like Hand Foot Mouth disease which is not of great concern in pregnancy. You might look in his mouth and check for little ulcers. My whole family including myself had Fifth Disease this spring. One thing I remember is that the rash with this virus is not on the palms or sole of feet. Both viral diseases are common this time of year and usually are accompanied by low grade fever and mild flu like symptoms. With 3 kids I've seen a lot of rashes after fever too which were said to be "just a virus". Sorry the little guy is uncomfortable, but so glad he has loving parents to help him through this.
