Rash on 17 Month Old's Face

Hi M.! It's so hard when they are small and can't let us know about other symptoms, isn't it??

My niece was visiting us over Christmas and is confirmed allergic to peanuts and other legumes. We were scooping out ice cream, and were sure to give her the chocolate first and not the peanut butter twirl. When we went to give seconds, I completely forgot and scooped her chocolate with the scooper without rinsing the scoop. She finished her bowl, and then as she put her spoon down, exactly what you explained happened.

They gave her an antihistamine right away, in case she would start having a serious reaction. I felt so bad!

Did he just get a shot?

did you give him the medication and is it working?

Is it only on his face? My son (now 5) had tiny red bumps on the backs of his arms, thighs and cheeks and my peds told me it was keritosis pilaris. Apparently it's a mild skin condition from the skin not sloughing off enough--but from lower layers so puffs, scrubbing, etc. won't help. It is slightly genetic & inherited. I kind of have bumpy backs of my arms (Blame the mom! haha) There is nothing you can do for it and it gets less severe with time (which is just what' my son's did). I have eczema on my hands and it is not really little pimples or bumps. I was told to use Dove soap on my son, which I still use til this day. Good luck to you and Eli!

I am the mother of a 4 year old little girl and she has been the rashiest little girl since birth. She has gotten everything from numerous viral rashes, to allergy rashes, to hand foot and mouth syndrome. Every month she has a new rash so you are not alone and I understand your frustration and concern. If they look like little pimples and are mostly prevalent around the nose and mouth it may be impetigo which is spead easily to other parts of the face. If it is dry or crusty that is another sign. Yes....we have had this quite a few times also. The best way to treat it is to remove the dry,crusty stuff, apply neosporin and get abx. I hope this helps but i would recommend seeing another MD if the rash does not improve soon. Good Luck!

My daughter had a rash on her face - exactly as you described it. The doctor said she had a topical yeast infection in her diaper area (that was red, too) and that the rash on her face was an allergic reaction to the yeast infection. The yeast infection went away after about two weeks and the facial rash went away immediately after we started treatment for the yeast infection. However, her diaper area flared back up and we ended up taking her to a dermatologist who said it was not a topical yeast infection after all, but was an allergic reaction to the dye in her diapers! So....you may want to consider that his facial rash may be an allergic reaction to something - food, detergent, dye in the darn diapers, etc....

MY first thought is that this is eczema or some form of dermatitis, and any allergies, especially food will aggravate the condition. For my daughter, dairy products are a main trigger. This was easy for me to figure out b/c most of my husband's family has similar allergies. She did not begin to show signs of a reaction until close to 18 months old, though.

I would start him off fresh with a neutral diet and switch out different foods each week until you figure out what is triggering it.

Also, try to use as natural skin care for him as you can get. Baby skin care products are made to appear gentle on the skin, but they are full of chemicals that can irritate sensitive baby skin.

It sounds exactly like my daughter's issue... eczema. I used hydrocortisone cream (over the counter) for a little while until it cleared up a bit and then I used Baby Aquaphor every day after her bath which prevents it from reoccuring as frequently.

I don't have an answer, but thought I would respond, because my son is experiencing the exact problem. People have told me maybe it is Empetigo, but the pimple like marks don't look puss filled at all. It started out as a rash, and has spread just a little after he's had it for over a month. The first time he was seen at the Doctor's, our doctor said to use Auquphor. 4 Days later, he was breaking out in pimples....
