I'm sorry he's so sick! I bet when he's feeling back to normal, he'll ease back into using the potty without a problem. I wouldn't hesitate to use pull-ups in the mean time.
Our son has been potty trained for almost 6 months. The last week he has been incredibly ill and has gotten severely dehydrated. He's been too sick to go potty, so we've let him use diapers, since he's been in bed the majority of the time. He's feeling better today. He does not want to wear underwear yet, although he is up drinking and watching TV. What should I know about transitioning him back to underwear? Because he is so ill we are headed back to Denver to see his doctors tomorrow, so I plan to use pull-ups rather than have the fight on the plane. I guess my biggest question is will he want to go back to underwear himself, or are we back to square one with potty training? I really don't want to push, but I'd rather not be back in diapers. Thanks!
Thanks for the advice. He woke up one morning and refused to wear a pull up. We've had a few accidents of not making it in time, but seem to be mostly on track. Thank you!

I hope your son is well on his way to recovery! That must have been scary for you. I am impressed that a 2 year old has been potty trained for 6 months, that is no easy feat. My daughter did the same thing, but for a totally different reason and it took me 4 months to get her to use the potty again. I learned that patience really is a virtue! GOOD LUCK!!
He should be fine. He will probably go right back to the potty. He may need some encouragement, but I would not worry too much.
Concentrate on him just feeling like himself again. I am so happy to hear he is doing better.
My daughter was completely potty trained at 2 1/2, then she twisted her knee and had a minor fracture, so in a cast and back in pullups. No sooner did she get that off did she have to have her tonsils out, stayed in pullups, THEN her little brother came along. I was changing TWO for a while.
All in the course of 7 mos. I just didn't fight it, she wasn't going to go back into underwear until she decided. The charts, stickers, rewards and all didn't work the second time.
However, Santa called (a local rec center here you can arrange to have a senior citizen call and be Sanata) told her how proud he would be to have her in underwear because he had big girl toys for her. She hung up the phone and put them on and we were done! That simple.
I think taking my nagging and pushing out of it, then letting her find something that really motivated her was enough. If your son has a great super hero/TV character and maybe have a friend call him. Just don't worry so much this time, you know he knows how. It took my daughter 10 mos from going back to pullups due to things going on for her to want something bad enough.
God Bless.
