My dear friend is having a "re-wedding" on Friday 6/20/08 in honor of her 10 year anniversary. It's a casual beach affair with kids/families included. Do you have any gift ideas (gag or otherwise) I could give her? I was her Maid of Honor and will be "officiating" the ceremony. Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your great suggestions. I forgot to write that the invitations read "no gifts" so I didn't want to go overboard. After reading that tin/aluminum was the traditional 10 year gift, I decided to give her a "centerpiece" of aluminum beer and pop cans, tin foil flags, and electric tin tiki lights all held together by a large aluminim pan. In the center of this tin & aluminum mess, I added a good bottle of bubby and a sign that said,

"Words of wisdom from your Maid of Honor…

Marriage is forever
And adultery is a sin
On your 10 year anniversary
You get aluminum and tin!

Cheers to 10 blissful years!"

The "re-wedding" was last Saturday and such a hit! Guests came dressed in old bridesmaid/groomsmen attire or tacky beach wear. Hilarious!

So many moms write in talking about the stress of keeping the house clean and not getting quality time with their spouces. I would recommend helping with these -maybe give her the gift of a house cleaning, hire a house cleaner, or offer a weekend of babysitting so she can get away with her husband.

Seeing that you're a part time Graphic Designer, you could ask her to give you pictures of her, her husband, and their family through out the years for a surprise you'd like to make for her. Then make a digital creative memory book for her in photoshop. Take the images and print them and put them in a nice photo album or better yet have them professionally printed in to a bound book. If you aren't in to "creative-memory" making - I actually do it for a part time living and could give you some help. Or if you'd wanted to take a look at my website (web.mac.com/ashtreephoto) and liked what I do, I could do it for you for 25% off considering that I feel like I'm soliciting to you right now. haha. Really though - that wasn't my intention at all. Just giving ideas!

Do you have a picture of the happy couple from the first wedding? Maybe enlarge it and frame it.

hmmm I say you give them a gift card to a nice swanky restaraunt.

Go with the beach theme. Get a large cute beach bag, large towel, sun screen, a couple of fun unbreakable glasses, their favorite beverage (for example if they like margaritas get all the mixings with salt or if they like wine get a few bottles), flip flops.

Just load the bag up with fun beach stuff.

I know of a great Day Spa that will pamper her and make her feel like a million. It's LeVonne de Spa at 4475 Highland Rd in Waterford Michigan. You can go to the website (www.levonnedespa.com) and look at all of the different packages they offer. It is a quaint destination away from the hustle of city life. They have a cozy, inviting, yet exclusive setting that creates an occasion that begs to be repeated.

Hope you enjoy!

I am the type of person that loves to be creative... Do you have time to paint a special photo frame or make a blanket? I usually match the two together so if they are in a room together, it can be rather complimenting.

If you use acrylic paints, wooden frames can dry in a day or if you make a knotted fleece, this only takes a few hours depending on the size.

(Wish I saw this sooner for your date!) Being the friend and 'maid of honor' I trust you will come up with the best gift and she will love it dearly!

I have two ideas, you could get them things from 10 years ago like a DVD of the best movie of 1998, CD of the top songs of the 90's, etc. Or a basket with "honeymoon" ideas (kid friendly) after 10 years. Like those individual bottles of wine (so you don't fall asleep after a full bottle!), bottle of aspirin (so you don't have a headache), Or maybe energy drinks! Just something fun you could think of as you walk through Wal Mart of things you would need now v. 10 years ago.

I'm assuming they won't need anything for their home. What about a gift card to a really nice restaurant where they can enjoy a romantic meal or an expensive bottle of wine they can enjoy for a romantic evening at home.

I specialize in meaningful gifts for these types of occasions, so if you'd like to go a more personal, heartfelt route (since she's such a dear friend and this is a milestone anniversary) I'd like to suggest a unique, handcrafted frame for a photo from Friday's event to create a lasting memory. Since you're short on time, I have several to choose from in stock so you wouldn't have to go searching. My website is www.barefootparties.com/laurarenton. Click on shop, then catalog and check out page 2 and page 32 for a couple of examples in different price ranges. If you see something you like, I'll be happy to get it to you by Friday.

Just a thought . . . I love gifting things that speak to the heart. Have a great time at the party! L.

I think gag gifts would be great! But maybe not so family friendly :) How about offering to watch the kids a while.
