Ok Smart Mommas'! You all never fail, so this is my first stop. =)
We now learn that over 20 teachers are pink slippped in our district. and that the per student dollar spent will be less the $500 for the Year! so is it possible that means that One teacher will be teaching TWO full classrooms of children from the hall way??. how can that teacher even teach, let alone make sure the children are safe and on task. its impossible, and you can bet that based on how many parents have volunteered for ANYTHING, that this will NOT be absorbed by parent involvment.
We are not willing to sacrafise our only child to the pack of wolves that public school will turn into, since its on its way already. what a bummer this is!! the behavior issues i see being a parent who volunteers for everything, this will be a dangerous place to be. so we can only try and find a better school that you pay for, i supose. we are upper elementary this next year, so i am looking for that and the middle school, or one that is both if there is such a thing! =) My Dream is Year Round Religious school, like I went to! it was wonderful!!
we can go to Livonia, Dearborn, Southfield, Redford, Westland. those are our close by cities.
i really want to get a jump on this before school gets out so we can possibly start to check it out sooner.
THANK YOU SOOO MCUH Friends 4 your advise!!

What can I do next?

St. Michaels is in Livonia, I was looking at them when we were looking for a private school. We are closer to Farmington and ended up at St. Fabian. Didn't like it. We ended up buying a house in Novi so our kids go to public school now.

However, when we had our daughter in Preschool we went to Our Lady of Sorrows. It is not in any of the cities you mentioned but is close to Livonia. It's in Farmington, 10 mile and Orchard Lake. They go from pre-k up to 8th grade. I loved it there and if we didn't move to Novi we would still be there.

Tons of volunteer opportunities and they don't FORCE you volunteer like some private schools do. If you can't volunteer you aren't made to pay an extra few hundred $$$ to make up for it.

From my experience, the staff was great and so were the parents...I'm sure not all of them will be, but no one is perfect right??? :o)

There are a number of websites you can utilize to help with your decision. Schooldigger.com is one I remember off the top of my head.

Happy Hunting!

I don't know of a private school, but my son attends Fortis Academy in Ypsilanti which is a Charter School. He loves it and the class sizes are fairly small; 22 kids in his young fives class and two teachers. http://fortis.heritageacademies.com/

The school is one in a chain of schools and the other schools in the area will be available to be seen on the website, you just have to navigate it a bit.
Good luck!

I went to Divine Child for High School and it was a GREAT school (17 years ago...YIKES, where does the time go?!?!?). College prep classes, uniforms, religion, great sports teams, art, music..... It's not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for. A co-worker of mine has a daughter that is enrolled in the high school now and they are very pleased with the program.

DC does have an Elem & Middle School.
