First I'd like to thank everyone for your responses concerning maternity clothing, they were all very helpful, thanks again!
We've been looking at different hospitals and I think we're going to go with the new Fitzsimmons there on colfax and 225, but I was wondering if anyone has been there and how the facilities are. I've talked to one person whose wife is having their child there and he had nothing but good things to say about the mid-wife program. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

I do have a great response about the Fitz Hospital. I was 5months prego when I moved here from Phoenix, Az and had no real insurance besides what the state gives to pregnant women. So I was told to go the University of Colorado hospital, the whole time I thought my doctors were talking about the one on Colfax( fitz) but they were talking about the old one. But I went to Fitz anyways! heh. They almost couldnt take me because I was 4 weeks early. But they did because I was exactly to the day of term which they could take. Thank God! The midwives, Jessica, Ann & Ann were great! I wasnt sure about having a midwife but they were the best!!! My husband wanted to move to northern colorado but I refuse to have my children anywhere else! heh. BTW when you have your baby there, I reccommend ordering the cheese burger and steak fries! Its delicious!!!

Best of Wishes,

I have been a labor doula and educator for about 6 years and I LOVE Fitz. They are very hands-off which I believe is great for birth. The serve as "life guards" ready to jump in if you need them, but happy to just let you swim along and deliver at your own pace.

My name is J. and I can help you a bit with information on the Fitz UCH hospital. I actually work for University Hospital on the Fitz campus in the outpatient clinics as an Audiologist. But more importantly I had my baby at Fitz and used the mid-wife clinic. There are actually 2 mid-wife practices on the Fitz campus. I used the smaller group (Jessica Sumwalt, Anne Mirella and Rachel?) I had a wonderful experience overall. In the end I had to have an emergency C-section (Jessica was at my delivery) so I was unable to truly utilize their services for delivery, but I could not have asked for a better experience. I experienced a lot of bleeding (ended up with a placental abruption) which was a bit concerning. Jessica was great, she was really calm the whole time, she worked really well with the on-call/on-site physician, asking for consults when needed and without hesitation but she remained in close contact both before and after delivery. The facilities are nice overall and the staff was very helpful. The only thing I would tell you/warn you about - they are going to move the delivery ward to a different floor (the current ward is going to become the NICU) and they will no longer have any private rooms. WHY they are doing this I have absolutely NO IDEA! It is a bad decision in my opinion and I work here. That said, I have been told that will happen next May. I would just be sure to ask your physician/mid-wife. They will probably have more information than I do. I hope that helps! I would be happy to talk more with you if you have specific questions. I am not very good at checking this site, but you can email me directly at ____@____.com if you want to talk further. GOOD LUCK!!
J.

I had my second child at the Fitzsimmons hospital in May 2005 and it was an amazing experience! I also had a mid-wife (I believe her name was Jessica) and she was AWESOME! I had planned to have a water birth so when we arrived I was taken care of very quickly, but once I figured out that the water birth was beyond what I could handle, my midwife was very supportive in having the epidural man come! I felt supported by everyone throughout my birth as well as the two days I stayed in the hospital. My first birth was at St. Joseph's downtown and I hated being in the hospital. The second experience was one I would tell other people about so that they can have an incredible experience as well.I wish you all the best in your adventure as a new mom!!!

I just had my 2nd baby boy in April. He was born at the Anschutz Inpatient Pavillion at Fitzsimmons. My first son was born at Lutheran in Wheat Ridge. What a world of difference between the two. I saw the midwives with my second child and had a WONDERFUL birthing experience. I loved my birthing experience with the midwives at Fitzsimmons, whereas the dr.s at Lutheran had me pulling out my hair and begging to be sent home. I was miserable. I highly recommend Fitzsimmons. I can't wait to go there for baby number 3!
