My son got red frosting on his brand new, super-cute, gymboree rash guard (the spandex/nylon shirt that matches his swim trunks). I have tried everything I can think of to get it out... dawn, tide stain spray, green works stain spray, oxiclean powder. I have gotten it to fade slightly, and keep trying the same things over again and have just hit a pink wall. Its stuck. Any suggestions?? I think its especially tough because its a synthetic fabric.
I even looked to see if I could just buy another one, but I couldn't find it. Its so cute and the beginning of summer. I'd love to fix this if anyone can help. Thanks so much in advance!
Update - no - I haven't put it in the dryer. I at least knew not to do that :)
So I've tried all of these things now and they all have helped. I even found fels naphtha at Walmart for 97 cents. The stain is there but barely. I don't think you can see it well unless you are looking for it. Thanks so much for all the help!
Fels naptha works really well on stains. Its a bar soap that you wet, rub into stains and let sit for a little while then wash. I've tried on whites and sometimes leaves white clothes where you treated the stain a little off-white. You can find fels naptha at ace hardware stores. I love it and its very inexpensive.
let it soak, mix a strong oxyclean solution and put it in a bowl and let it soak for a few hours to over night and scrub with dawn
I got a lot of red frosting on my WHITE shirt last summer, then it dried on for close to 24 hours before I was able to treat it. I used Prespot and Sol-U-Mel and then let it soak in water w/ MelaBrite for most of the day. Then, washed and it was completely out (and the shirt looked better than new). Just last weekend, I brought my nephew's white rash guard shirt home that had stains ALL over it...they were reddish orange and my sister wasn't sure what it was. At the same time, she sent me home with another shirt that had the same type of stains, dried on since last year and had been in the dryer. By doing the same thing I was able to get most of the stain out. Then, I sprayed a bit of Tub & Tile and was able to get the last bit out.
All these items are from Melaleuca so they are safe to use for other than their primary purpose and are non-toxic.
I use Baby Oxiclean Stain Fighter. I put the powder on my stains, and then squirt it with water. I let it dry over the stain and then rinse. Sometimes I have to repeat the process a few times, but I've gotten everything out of my daughters clothes. Old Spagetti sauce, chocolate, strawberry juice (from an actual strawberry), even mold on an old shirt I found from being on top of a wet towel in her laundry basket. I've used it on all kids of materials, except bathing suit material, but it worked on everything and didn't discolor anything.
Try Windex or Glass Plus!
Not sure it'll work on this, but it worked on Big Red on my mom's couch and celery green rug (ages ago - she didn't listen and gave my kiddo more than I told her to - he'd been sick and I'd learned how much he could keep down at a time ...and that rug and couch were new!!)
Hydrogen peroxide takes out blood, so try that.
Have you tried the oxyclean spray? Yellow nozzle/ blue bottle, it is my go to stain remover for stubborn stains, I have never had much luck with the oxyclean powder.
Have you put it in the dryer? If so then the stain is now baked in.
It may sound weird but try windex.
