Reverse Osmosis or Carbon Activated Under Sink Water Filtration System

Hello,
We're looking for a good water filter for drinking water. I've done some research and see that the reverse osmosis or carbon filters seem to be best, but there are so many brands. Some certified, others are not and it's kind of confusing.
My husband would be installing this by himself, so the installation process is kind of important also
Any recommendation as far as brands etc?
We're in the suburbs of Chicago, so we have Lake Michigan water and we have a filter under sink but need a new one...

Thank you

I'm not familiar with the water quality where you live, but unless you're on well water with some serious contaminants, carbon filtration is probably fine for your needs. Likewise, the brand doesn't matter too much, but you should be sure to change your filter every few months (otherwise you'll just be drinking moldy water... yum!). My only caution with Reverse Osmosis is that it wastes a ton of water - the wasted amount is more than the amount you actually get out of it. So if you're on a water meter, that's something to consider.

We bought a reverse osmosis under the sink filter from Costco at least 20 years ago & it has been great! My husband installed it. We have had to periodically replace parts & filters (of course) & it's been no trouble at all. We drink a LOT of water & the savings in not buying it in bottles has been tremendous over the years.

My husband has been able to do all the maintenance type stuff & anytime we've had a question, the customer service has been great. The brand name is Watts Premier, based out of Arizona. Their web site is www.wattspremier.com. Good Luck

Please, I used to sell water treatment systems and drinking water systems-the one you want is "Kinetico" -it is not sold in stores-try to find a dealer in your area-it is the best-their "Purefecta" is remarkable-and yes, I own Kinetico equipment

We bought the DuPont RO filter system from Menards. We've been happy with in and my husband installed it. RO removes more contaminants than a carbon filter.

About 6 years ago we were in the place you are right now. I also asked around like you are. My deciding factor to getting an RO system was a man that I truly respected in the nutrition industry ONLY uses RO water in his products. I figured if a guy of nutritional science for over 40 years chose RO, I would too!
