Hi Moms! I was at Thanksgiving yesterday & was sitting next to my S-I-L after lunch. She was talking about them wanting to have another baby & they both really want twins. She is taking some sort of an herbal supplement to help with this? I was just wondering if this is safe & what the heck is it? She never gave me the name & I didn't want to pry. I just wasn't sure if anyone has heard of such a thing & just wanted to make sure it was safe.

It could also be called Fertility, but is mainly Damania. Even men can take it, so it is for both men and women. I don't think it would increase your chances of getting twins, but just to help one get pregnant if they are having issues. I am not sure besides going the dr route, or being on Chlomid would actually increase your chances. They say that fraternal is genetic (can't control that), and identical twins are a fluke. LOL I know that after 5 children, your chances increase, and after age 35yo, your chances increase. We conceived twins at 32yo, but also was number 7, so I guess it worked for us, but we lost the twin. My friend was younger, and also had twins on numbers #6 pregnancy, both born live.

A family member of mine was talking about the same thing. She was told to take the supplement Vitex which is also known as chaste berry. I don't really know much about it other than that.

I have heard that taking extra folic acid can increase your chances of conceiving twins. I know a girl who was told to do that by her OB and she actually did have twins but according to Internet articles it is not effective.

I had a friend take an herb to get pregnant with her first child but I can't remember the name.

I know it's impossible to tell family things but you might want to mention that twins are hard. We did invitro after 6 years of trying to conceive and were blessed with twins. Let me prefice this by saying I'm grateful for my girls who are now 5.5. But, it's hard. The first 3 months I got 3 hours sleep a night. Nursed until they were 7 months old and felt like a momma pig trying to nurse two at once. It's impossible to get anything done around the house and keep two climbing, crawling toddlers safe. They are so different and excel at different things which creates hard feelings. Sharing friends has been difficult and they are starting to fight just like regular siblings. One excels at school, one doesn't. THat's not a problem now but will be.
So, while twins are cute and a novelty they are very hard work. 3 years later we had a singleton and were able to enjoy her becuase we weren't as sleep deprived and had more time to give her.

I haven't heard of any herbal supplement to take to conceive twins, but I do have twin boys who will be 2 this month and they keep me very busy. Good luck to your SIL.
