I have been reading and hearing about all of the problems with plastic water bottles and such. I looked at our baby bottles and can't see a number on them. And, I looked at some of our sippy cups and they do have a number 7. Can anyone please recommend some good, safe plastic sippy cups and baby bottles?
Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

the born free brand is bpa free and the safest available in plastic. glass is the safest. you can purchase born free bottles and sippy cups at new seasons or online. i think that babies-r-us is even carrying them now!

If you cannot see a number, a quick way to tell (for clear or translucent bottles) is by tapping the plastic with your fingernail. If it is hard and makes a sharp tapping noise, then it has BPA. For instance, this is how it would sound if you tapped one of those hard plastic Nalgene bottles.

Obviously it is not an exact science, but basically the harder the plastic, the more likely it is to contain BPA.

My solution has been to never store liquids in plastic bottles, and only use bottles and sippies when the child is actually drinking out of it. The rest of the time, I keep the liquids in glass or metal containers.

I did a search on the internet and I found that Nuby sippy cups are BPA free. They specified both the handled and handle free versions. For storage, Sigg makes an aluminum kids bottle and the designs are great! A little spendy but the bottle last 20 years, and are kid durable. Avent bottles are also BPA free. Good luck!

I have done a little research on this as well. I know that MAM brand is BPA free and is a little cheaper than the BORN FREE brand. You can purchase them at Target on-line (haven't seen them in store unfortunately). 3 bottles for like $12 pretty cheap. I also read some things about BPA and that it only releases at a very high temp if item is in that temp for an extended period. For example way longer than the average sterilizing process. Also watch for wear and tear (scratches) and color change of the plastics, when either of these occur, toss them and get new ones...
