I need help with my 8 moth old's daily menu. Here is my current menu:
8 am- bottle
10 am- fruit or yogurt (sometimes both) w/ bottle and cereal
1 pm- veg with bottle and cereal or yogurt
3/4pm- bottle
6/7 pm -veg and meat w/ bottle
9 pm - bottle w/ cereal

When do you transition to finger foods? How do transition to finger foods? When will my son cut back on his bottles since right now he wants to eat every three to four hours. What does your daily menu look like? What else can I add to his menu to "spice" it up?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

If he's eating well and gaining appropriately, don't mess with success! Cheerios on the high chair tray are a great first finger food...good luck!

At 8 months, he should be able to handle most soft finger foods. Start with the standard- Cheerios. Just put some on his tray and let him have at it. You can also give him some diced avocado, diced berries, cut green beans, peas, corn kernels. The key is to make sure everything is small. Also give him small portions. If he really likes it or is really hungry, he may shove more in him mouth than he can handle. If you give him carrots, make sure they are well steamed. Those are a choking hazard. There is no reason he cannot eat what you are eating (within reason). My boys loved taco meat at this age.

Do not worry if he does not have teeth. His gums are very strong. If he is taking that many bottles, he is ready for some more real food.

Remember, 3 hours is standard for a child his age. He has a small tummy and is doing a lot of growing. He will slow down at about a year to 18 months. THeir grows slows dramatically at that point.

Good Luck!

You can add yogurt, and now is the time to really introduce meats. I like to make lentil dahl type stuff. Very messy, but very mushy and a great introduction to a lot of flavors. And do start to really add spices. Save the salt, but get creative! '

You should probably wait on table food until he has a few teeth and can mash with his gums and teeth. If it is mashed table food then that's fine. I would hold back on heavy spices because their little tummies aren't ready for that yet.

I would say around a year old or so. There's no rush. The diet you are giving seems awesome. I tried my first on some finger foods at around 9 months only to totally freak myself out bc he wasn't quite ready. I have a 5 month old now and I am so much more relaxed. I haven't introduced cereal yet, going to wait until 6 months and I am going to wait on table foods until a year or so. My little dude is major chunk and doing great and my first was always in the 100% for weight, so it won't hurt to take it slow. My pediatrician is always on the conservative side for feeding, especially the first year and it has worked out well for me. Good luck:)

A Blender. I took the food we were eating and pureed it. I just didn't add the spices until baby's was scooped out. My eldest loves brussel sprouts with cereal and a touck of milk and butter. As they get more used to the flavors and changing textures they will start eating other things. My littlest is a cracker dipped in milk child.

I have an 8 1/2 month old (and 2 older kids). Start with the Gerber Puffs, if he does well then work up to Cheerios and Rice Krispy or Chex cereals (low sugar but with lots of vitamins. After that you can add softer vegetables (we used canned sweet corn, green beans, peas) and soft well-cooked (or canned) beans, lentils, etc... You can also give blended or ground meats. We also give our daughter well-cut up (1/4 inch) spaghetti in sauce. Well mashed avocado or fresh baked sweet potato are also favorites. My daughter is currently eating all of these. In a couple of weeks when we can introduce some dairy (9 months) we're going to try yogurt and cottage cheese (whole milk large curd style). We haven't tried Tofu yet, but our boys loved it at this age. Happy cooking for your little one!

If you go to BRUS you will find alot of food for infants. Also try buying a sippy cup that have a soft tip. I have a 9 month old son and he eats EVERYTHING, from fruits, vegetables, meat and ect. but he wont eat the baby cereal or gerbers. When we eat he wants to eat whatever we have. His favorite food is SPAGHETTI. He only drinks from the cup. We only give him 2, 8oz bottle a day.

Right now its all filling for them, no need to worry about spicing it up. I'm sure it seem boring for you but youre good. Is the pediatrician ok with the yogurt? That's dairy and should probably wait until they are ok to be on regular milk. Finger foods? I'm guessing from the baby jar...once they can chew AND swallow. Some hold it in their mouth because they arent ready. Take your time with it.

Around 8 months is when I started giving my son the gerber puffs and also the yogurt bites they both dissolve quickly in the mouth I always have a sippy cup with water also for him The Nuby has a soft tip and he does pretty good with it. I would feed him a puff and always put a few on his tray it takes a while but eventually they figure out how to pick it up and feed themselves. As far as table food goes I dont really give any I have tried a few times and every time he gets sick. His little stomach isnt quite ready. My son still has 3-4 bottles a day about 24 oz a day is pretty average i think.
