Hello Ladies. My son and I will be joining his father in the Dallas (Plano/Carrollton) in a month or so. My worry right now is moving across four states where there is not immediate family support; therefore, having to turn to a daycare center or in home sitter for assistance. I am coming to you all asking for assistance with finding a great daycare and a network of working moms who can advice me on making through without totally ulling my hair out. Thanks Landies

What can I do next?

M.,
I know exactly what you are going through, we moved here a little over a year ago (to Allen) with no family in state and it is scary. My family is in FL and my mom or my sisters were the only ones who had ever watched my 4 yr old son. I'll tell you this website alone has been a huge help to me finding doctors/dentists, playgroups, moms groups, preschools etc. The people in Texas are the best, I've had so many people reach out to me and help me with whatever. Email me if you have any questions. ____@____.com

Hi M.! Good luck on your move. You didn't mention how old your kids are, so it's hard to recommend a moms group, but it sounds like you'll be in west Plano/east Carrollton area which is exactly where I am also. It's a great place. I am in two wonderful mom's groups, but both are for pretty young kids. One is more north east Carrollton for moms with kids under about 2 1/2 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CarrolltonMoms/ and the other really covers Collin County and also has mostly younger kids but a few slighly older. http://newparents.meetup.com/220/boards/ I highly recommend both groups.

I use a Mother's Day Out program for my son, so I can't really recommend a full time daycare, but there are tons around here that have great reputations.

Your coming to a great state that is AWESOME to live. And Texas will welcome and make you feel right at home. So welcome when you get here....Depending on where in Plano you live I know of a great day care that comes highly recommed it's called Carpe Diem. My son is best friends with the owner and they are wonderful family. The price I'm not too sure but I can find out for you. I wish the best for you and family during this transition period..

Hi M.!

I am not familiar with day cares in the area, but I wanted to let you know that I know what it is like to move to a new area and not have family support. I had a much tougher time of it when we lived up north since most people seemed to have grown up in the area and it was harder to plug in and feel connected. We also lived in GA for a time and I loved it there (Atlanta area)! My husband worked a lot of hours and traveled, so I have felt like a single mom a lot. Right now we live in Plano. I have 6 children ranging from 5 to 17.

I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know that I have a place in my heart for anyone having to move to a new area and not have family around. I know exactly how scary that can be. If you ever need to talk to someone that has been there, done that, feel free to contact me anytime. My e-mail address is ____@____.com

M., You have to check out Childtime in Plano. They are on Hedgcoxe Rd. They are a great place to leave your children. Their web address is www.childtime.com. Best of luck on your move to Texas.

Hi M.! Welcome to TEXAS! I moved to Austin TX about 3 yrs ago, and then here in the Dallas area about 12 days ago. We are originally from New Orleans. Here is a mommy group based in Plano, http://groups.msn.com/CollinCountyNoDramaMommas

These ladies have made me feel so welcomed! Truly a great bunch "down to earth" moms.

I have 3 boys, ages 12, 10, and 6. They would love a new friend. Maybe we could get them together to play one weekend.

I am not sure where you are going to be relocating to, but a great area and a great pre-school is in Plano. The name of the school is Primrose School of Forest Creek, ###-###-####. Coming from GA you probably have heard of this great program as is originated in Atlanta! Good Luck!

Hi M.,
Welcome to Texas. I wanted to give you a website that was very helpful to me in finding child care. once you have a center or registed home care that interest you, you can check to see if they have had any violations, reports, etc. All you need is their zip code.

http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/Search_Texas_Child...

By the way, I travel to Atlanta very often, I don't think there is much difference. Texas doesn't have state income tax like Atl, but our property taxes are higher. I've lived her for 20 years. I love it. D.

Hi M.! Try meetup.com and plug in your city or zip. There are awesome Mommy groups everywhere here and meetup.com is a great way to find a group close to where you will be - they have message boards with all sorts of great answers to any question as well as support groups, playdates, etc.

Welcome to TX!

I highly recommend Carpe Diem - there are two locations - one in Richardson and one in Frisco. The Richardson location is VERY close to Plano. Also, our close friends have kids at Creme de la Creme and love it. They are both on the pricey side - but well worth the money!

Good luck!
