oh this sounds awful! Poor you and poor her! I am using vitamin e on a dog bite that my daughter has. I'm going to echo what others have said and say to use plenty of sunscreen.
Hi, My almost 2 year old daughter tripped over her own feet (while running) and hit her head on the rocking chair on Sunday night. We went to the ER and she needed 11 stitches, 1 in her muscle, 4 on the next layer and 6 on the top layer of skin. It was horrible. There are so many products to choose from to help with scaring-I was wondering if anyone could let me know which one worked best for them??? Thanks
Thank you all so much for your help!! It makes me feel better to hear others success stories with scars. I will be loading her up with Vitamin E and suncreen!! Thanks again, I really appreciate your stories and advice!! -A.

My son had a HUGE dog bite on his face at 1 years old. By age two it was gone. We just kept the area clean and put cocoa butter on it. The pediatrician told me it would heal-I was skeptical but now there is no trace of the bite and it was a bad one.
Hi A.,
My daughters are always running and tripping or falling.. but this was pretty serious.. yikes. I hope she's okay. My 8 year old recently fell while ice skating and got 6 stitches under her chin. The plastic surgeon who stitched her with dissolvable stitches, said it's extremely important to put sunscreen on twice per day.. even if it's overcast.. apparently the sun can really darken a scar.. She said to do this for a full year. She recommended Mederma (bought over the counter) at CVS etc.. it's very expensive, $20 for .70oz. It supposedly helps heal while protecting from the sun.. good luck!

Hi A.!
My name is C. and I am a rep for Arbonne International. I am sure you are going to get a lot of responses from Arbonne reps as we have a product(s) that can definitely help your daughter. Our Skin Conditioning Oil and Rejuvinating Cream are the products you need for her scar. We have many testimonials from plastic surgeons and dermatologists that Arbonne is the only product they will put on a scar immediately following surgery....no waiting. We also have a Cleansing Gel that would be helpful in the healing process. I can send you before and after images if you would like of people who have had great results with our products. Our products are Swiss formulated, herbal and botanical, and contain no mineral oil so they get results! Please let me know if I can help or if you would like more information. These products are very reasonably priced and do get results.
Thanks for your time and good luck with whatever decision you make!
In good health,
C.
I don't think the scar ointments work all that well. My friend is a dermatologist and she says to use straight Vitamin E oil. You can find it at a GNC or buy the gel caps and puncture them with a pin to squeeze the oil out. The oil will speed the healing and help prevent scars.
She also recommends that you cover the scar site very well this summer to keep it out of the sun. The scar will show up more if she develops any little tan.
That said, she also says that she was sure your daughter was referred to a plastic surgeon when she went in for stitches. Either a plastic surgeon did the stitching or you would have been referred to one for a follow up visit. She says that stitches today are so fine and small that scars are being greatly reduced.
Good luck and try not to worry. Hopefully the cut is in a place that she can cover with bangs.

Hello A.
I think the best scar product that I use is Mederma
they have a whole bunch of different ones to choose from and its doctor and pharmacist approved and I think with its the best one
and sometimes I have used Bio oil which is fro everything scars to stretch marks and un even skin tone and I really like both their products they are on the expenisve side but I love them and dont care about price as long as it works for me and they both have done their jobs because all my scars and stretch marks since I had my son are disappearing and Im happy about that
well good luck :) with chooisng a scar product and I hope whatever one you choose will make your daughters scar go away....
I recommend Mederma, it isn't cheap, but it is the best. It was recommended to me by the ER doc and a plastic surgeon when my son got a gash in his forehead. Good luck.
Hi A.,
As a mum to whom this has happened to her child - I know how you feel!
My son, when he was 18 months old, tripped over his own feet while running in the house and cracked his forehead open on the prominent corner of a wall. He ended up with 10 stitches and it was horrible.(He's now almost 24 and the scar is barely noticeable).
Let the cut heal before placing anything on it. I'm not sure whether you can get Bio-Oil in the USA but it is great for scars. You don't need much and it absorbs well.
Enjoy these early years - they grow up too fast!
Kind regards
S.
Hi A.,
I have a scar on my hand that faded substantially with I'm sorry your baby got hurt! Vitamin E and making sure my scar had sunscreen on it. At the time of my accident, I had a 45-90 minute commute each way and I was living in Virginia - my hands were in a lot more sun there than up here! - and the combination reduced the scar to a fine white line. As long as her scar is totally healed, start the sun screen now and keep the area covered for at least 6 months. The good news is baby skin is really resilient, and whatever you decide to do, the scar will be minimal. Protecting the scar is the most important, Vitamin E is secondary, but it helps.
A.,
once your daughter's Wound Heals, and there is no sign of infection, you could try this:
cut a leaf from an ALOE VERA plant, splice it down the length of the leaf, open it wide, cut a piece off (the size of the wound) tape the jelly side onto the would. Do that several times a day for a week or 2. If it comes off cause she's a little kid, you can scrape the gooey jelly off the leaf, and apply it, then a bandaid.
I believe you can buy jars of PURE aloe vera gel in health food stores.
The point is, there must be no chance of infection from plant debris, then apply as much and often as possible,; make up an aloe song to sing with her when you apply, like a game. this is PURE VITAMIN E. It totally prevents scarring. I've used it on burns for which aloe is best, and it heals without a scar.
Also, I've seen in pharmacies, an ointment for prevention of scarring. Ask the Pharmacist.
Do some googling too.

A., I so feel for you going through this with your almost 2-year-old. When my daughter was 18 months old, she hit her forehead on the corner of a table in our living room and needed three stitches. Holding her down for just three was a nightmare. I'm not sure how much it helped reduce the scarring, but we used Palmer's Cocoa Butter Vitamin E Scar Serum. We were also very careful about sun exposure. From what I've heard, that's the most important thing in the first year after the injury. Make sure she's wearing sunscreen and/or a hat whenever she's outside. I guess scar tissue is more likely to be permanently discolored by sun exposure during that first year. If it's any comfort, my daughter is now 3, and the scar is barely visible.
I'm not sure which scar product you should use but when you are out in the sun this spring and summer make sure you use sun screen on it every time you go out check w/ your dr when stitches are removed when you can start putting sunscreen on it you could also ask them which scar product they recommend.
Vitamin E. Get the liquid capsules. break it open and put it on the scar. It will fade fairly fast.
My daughter also had two layers (9 on the underlayer and 11 on the skin) of stitches 2 years ago and we used Mederma and I have to say that the scar healed quite nicely. Make sure to use sunscreen/hat all summer as well to protect it from the sun. Her scar is inbetween her eyes and you hardly notice it.
Hi A.,
My youngest feel and cut her head on a coffee table when she was 2 also. I keep a bandaid on it for a while then for a year I made sure to keep sunscreen on it everyday. Even if it wasn't sunny. It really helped. You can barely tell she has a scar there. I also used mederma for kids(not sure of the spelling). I think it helped but I think keeping the sunscreen on it was key.
Good luck.
How scary!! I can't imagine how you handled that. YOUR scars are certainly not going to heal! As for HER scars, my brother is a plastic surgeon. The stitching done well is the first and most important step to preventing scarring (to all those who read this--it is your right to request a plastic surgeon to do the stitching at the hospital). Second, keep the wound moist for as long as she will tolerate it. Do this by using a prescription-strength antibiotic ointment, and keeping it covered for weeks. You are so smart asking for advice NOW. My brother says that too many people try to do stuff once the scar is in place. All those scar creams, etc. are only as good as the treatment you provided the wound at the beginning!
Hope this helps!
Hi A., So sorry to hear about your beautiful baby! I just wanted to say that years ago my nephew was bitten by a dog, and his top lip was completely in two! The plastic surgeon who stitched him said that it's not so much the product you use as it is the actual massaging back and forth of the scar! My sister did this 3 times a day. I can tell you that today my nephew is 18 and you can barely see the scar! Good Luck!
I have heard that melaleuca oil works great to prevent scaring. I must emphasize that one thing that seems most significant though is to not let the scar get sunburned because then the scar will definitely be permanent.

Having had multiple surgeries ( 30 ) I can only tell you what I use to minimize scarring.
Either ( or both ) vitamin E oil, and beeswax cream.
Massage them in in a circular motion.
It , of course, does not eliminate scars but mine sure are much less noticable than many folks and seem to fade out more quickly.
Best wishes and God bless

Hi. My son tripped and required stitches in his cheek just below his right eye last year. Nice and prominent on his face. :) We used mederma for kids, although I am not really sure how well it worked. When we mentioned it to the plastic surgeon, he didn't think it had any true benefit. I was completely obsessed with keeping the scar covered while out in the sun. The plastic surgeon recommended covering it with zinc and then I covered it with a bandaid for extra coverage. I also always made sure he wore a ball cap. This went on all spring, summer and fall. The scar has healed well, and most people can't even tell it is there. Good luck!
