I would like to know about the schools in Maumelle, we will be moving there in the next few months and our daughter will start Kindergarten next year. I have heard the public schools are not very good and private is the way to go. Is that ture? and then which private schools should I look at.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We went down to Little Rock to look for houses and schools. We did find a house in Maumelle, in Osage Hills. I did look at Pine Forest school. The lady there was so rude to us. I would have to get a waiver to go to that school. She told me that there is no way we were going to come to that school. That we belonged over at Crystal Hills. On our trip down, we were stuck in Houston for over 4 hours, and I spoke with a Continental Airline pilot and his children had gone to Miss Selma's. We went to look at Miss Selma's and Little Rock Christian. Miss Selma's was amazing!! At Little Rock Christian, they were nice, but it seemed like a job and not a love, where at Miss Selma's it seemed more like a love of teaching than a job. I also liked the fact that Miss Selma's was small. I want to thank everyone for your help. I was able to narrow down the schools I wanted to see, before getting to Little Rock. Thanks again,--S.

I live in Maumelle and love it! My son is 2 1/2 right now, but when he starts school we will be putting him in Pulaski Academy. It is in West Little Rock so it is really close to Maumelle. The funny thing about Maumelle schools is that the Pine Forrest is not for Maumelle. It is part of Pulaski County Special Schools, so depending on what part of Maumelle you live in you could go there or you could go to Oak Grove, Crystal Hill. There is a Charter School in Maumelle that is supposed to be really good, but they have had some funding issues in the past so it is not a sure thing that they will be open in the future. Private school is the way to go if you can afford it, PA (Pulaski Academy) is the best one in Little Rock. They have really accelarated academics and a great sports program when your child gets older.

If you can get into the Pine Forrest school district, then that's a different story. The only really nice neighborhood in the PF school district is the Country Club of Arkansas. The rest of the neighborhoods in that district are older and not as nice. We are actually in the PF school district, but our neighborhood is really small starter houses. When we move to a bigger house we will probably go to the Country Club to stay in Pine Forrest. So basically if you don't want to pay for private school, try to move into a PF school district house. As far as private school goes, CAC and Pulaski Academy are great!

Little Rock Christian is the best private school around, in my opinion. It is located on Hwy 10/Cantrell in West Little Rock. I realize that it is not in Maumelle, however it is very close. Check it out at www.littlerockchristian.com. They are starting the registration process now for next year. It is a very prominent school and many people try to get their children in. The sooner you start the process, the better!

Good luck,

Hi there S.! My family just relocated to Arkansas about 6 months ago. While my daughter in young (2), I did want to live in a good school District. We ultimately settled in West Little Rock.. To be honest, for us it was location - to downtown, activities and my husbands job that swayed us to settle here...

Anyway, while we were preparing to move I came across a good website that helped me with the schools: http://www.schoolmatters.com/ It is A Standard & Poor's site and has a lot of valuable information. It will also provide you with contact information for the schools. If I remember correctly (we looked in maumelle for a house fo a while) there are 2 elementary schools and both were good.

Good luck!
