Anyone have a place they have used to have screen repair done? My MIL recommended a place she used but the guy went from quoting me appx $28 per screen over the phone to $40 once he picked them up today. These are screens for our sun porch that desperately need to be redone but it just seems really steep to pay that much!

What can I do next?

Thank you everyone for the info you shared! I wish I would remember to come here first for advice!!! We ended up going with the guy originally since he already had our screens....lesson learned on this one!

I did my screens myself with screen material (it comes in a roll like fabric) and accessories purchased at Lowe's or Home Depot. The staff there are very helpful. You could take one screen in and ask them. I'm not sure why this guy's estimate changed so much from $28 to $40 - are the frames particularly complicated or old? Also, a lot of places that do glass also repair screens - you could call around and get some estimates. Unless you are already committed to this guy and he picked up all your screens already. Good luck.

Hi Jenn - I imagine the screens you're talking about are much larger than ones we just had repaired in Acton. We paid $12 screen (2' x 2') & they were perfect and turned around in 2 days. I can find the name of the biz if you want. We had a few done in Concord at Vanderhoof's which were same same size but $20/screen & the owner was kind of rude. Not sure if you've tried Angie's List---awesome for local repair reviews. If you try it, sign up but don't pay and the next day you'll get an email for a discount on signing up (free registration or $30 off a year).

After the recent hail storm, we needed all of our screens replaced! We used a great guy! His name is John Forte at ###-###-####, I believe he has a business in ashland. they were $22 each. You can tell him someone from Grafton recommended him:) He will pick them up and deliver for no charge!!

We replaced the screen on a sliding glass door that our dog rammed through and it was quite easy. You need the special tool required but it is only a few dollars at Home Depot and them there is the screen material. It is definitely a do-it-yourself kind of project. Just ask someone at Home Depot and they can make sure you have everything you need. Good luck!
