Feeding the dolphins and sea lions are a must!! The Viva show is VERY good....very entertaining! My kids also love the childrens play area.

If you go online to the Sea World website, you can buy and print tickets online, which makes it cheaper and cuts down on time standing in lines.

We seem to go to San Antonio almost every other summer, my kids really enjoy it. We usually do the 2 day pass for Sea World so that we can do the water park the following day!

Have FUN!!!!

Try and have dinner with Shamu!!(or lunch)An experience you'll never forget! Up close and personal with the killer whales. We got some incredible pictures and learned a lot. The food wasn't the best but tolerable. We also did the behind the scenes tour of Seaworld! The kids got to feed the stingrays and got to pet a shark! We also were able to see a baby dolphin. I would not miss the seal, walrus and otter show either! It's the best...be sure to sit in the splash section! It's worth it to get a little wet!! We did these things the Spring Break before last so I hope they still offer these programs or ones similar this year. Have fun!!

Hello Katie,
I think it is a wonderful idea that your family is taking a trip to Sea World. Well in response to your question my family and I traveled there about 1 month and a half ago and we had a wonderful time. Although my son is just 17months he still had a great time. I do advise that once at the park you make sure you watch all the shows. I think that is the big idea for the whole park. The feeding of the dolphins is great too. They let you go in a lil early before the park opens to feed them, that was my sons favorite part! The shows are great, hillarious, and very fun to observe the animals interract. (The walrus show is the best, at least my favorite) You might want to consider either leaving the park to eat or eating before getting there because the food is a little expensive, unless that is in your budget it's fine then. Also, on our way traveling to San Antonio we made a stop at the Natural Bridge Caverns. We went into the caverns and it's okay but I would much rather reccomend the Natural Bridge African Zoo. (I'm not too sure of the name but they are right next to each other and the zoo is a drive-thru.) They give you 2 free bags of food to feed the animals, which is a big amount itself. I highly recommend you take a visit to downtown San Antonio. A visit to the Alamo is free and across the street from it are 2 museums. One of them is the Palace of Wax and the other I'm not sure the name but it is a ride thru the museum from the movie Tomb Raider, I believe- not too sure. And the River walk itself says it all. Perfect for dining and especially a ride on the river itself is very fun. It is especially romantic. Hope you guys have a GRRRREAT time!!!!!

We did it with a 4 year old. Got the 2-day pass and went 10-3 each day, which was perfect. Saw all of the shows there (and he loved them all!) Did not ride any rides or do any waterpark stuff but still had tons of fun. Loved the penguins and dolphins and taking picture with the horses. Plus the play area was a hit. Packed snacks in my purse, especially good for when waiting for shows to start. Did not go into town - didn't even drive our car the whole time. Stayed at the Radison which drove us to the park everyday and was SO KID FRIENDLY! Great fun!

ditto on feeding the dolphins first when you get there first thing in the morning.... i hear they are not hungry later in the day. PLUS, take CASH for that. The dolphin food they sell there - they only accept cash. We wasted time trying to get to an ATM to get cash. We thought every place at Sea World would take debit card.
{UPDATE}: forgot to mention - they only do feedings at certain times. So hence, they only sell the food during those times. check the schedule and stand in line at the food counter then.

Also, try to arrive at the big popular show about 20 mins early to get a good seat. They fill up fast.
Do the water park last when yall are hot and need to cool off!
You'll have a blast!!

The dolphin area opens a hour to thirty mins before the park opens. Go early and feed the dolphins they will eat right out of your hands and you are able to touch them. We went back later in the day to feed the dolphins and they were not interested in the food at that time. My kids loved that part of the trip. My daughter also stayed after one of the shows to get kissed by a whale. Have a great time .

Hi Katie,

It kind of depends on your kiddos age? Mine were 7 and 4 when we went last year and we saw just about every single thing in 10 hours, and it flew by! The one show you MUST see is Shamu the killer whales, it's AWESOME! Feeding the sea lions was a HUGE deal for our kiddos too! You can buy fish there to feed them, and the loved it! It's a great family vacation and it's just the right sized part to really see everything in a day! ENJOY!

We took our kids last year (5 & 1) and they had a blast. When you get there in the morning go first to the dolphins. It will actually open up a little before the rest of the park. You want to be there first to feed them - I hear they respond the best first thing in the morning. Plus, they only have certain feeding times. The Shamu show is a must & the whale show (I forget the name - but it is mostly acrobatics). We only did the shows and seeing all the animals. We did it in two days. You will love Sea World!

I got some great advice on Mamasource before we went on our San Antonio trip last May. Try to find time to visit the Children's Museum (downtown) and the San Antonio Zoo. Both are a lot of fun. The zoo has a train and a little beach area where kids can play in some shallow water. to cool off.

If you are interested in riding the big rides at Sea World, you might check ahead that morning before going. It seems every time we have gone, at least one of the roller coasters has been broken for the day. Very disappointing when they only have a couple to choose from.

It's pretty fun to spend a few extra dollars to buy food to feed the sea lions.

Check the feeding times for the different animals when you first get there so that you can plan your day around that.

Be sure to check around for coupons to all of the activities I mentioned, including Sea World. Last year, they had an unpublicized deal where you could bring a pepsi can in to get an adult admission for the kid price. I called Sea World directly for that deal.
There is some site online called something like San Antonio SAVE where you can get coupons.

I have 3 kids under 5. When we went last year, we loved doing the Dine w/ Shamu. You have to reserve it online before you go, but it was worth the money in our opinion. Also, definately do the 2 day pass. It's only about $7 more if you book it online and it keeps you from feeling like you have to do everything in one day. We also do the Natural Bridge Wildlife Safari every year. We drive thru once and then stop for ice cream and to visit the petting zoo then we go thru once more. Have fun!

We went last summer with my 7, 3, and 1 year olds. Feeding the dolphins & seeing the penguins were the highlights of the day. And, of course, the shamu show was a big hit! The other show all of my kids really enjoyed was the beluga whales.
I would also recommend the children's museum if your kids are under 10. The zoo and train are also nice if you have time.
The River Walk is pretty neat for older kids and grown ups, but little ones get bored with it really fast.
Have a great time, San Antonio is a really fun city to visit!

Get the 2 day pass. You can't possibly do everything in one day. We took our children when on was 1 yr and the other was 4yrs. They absolutely loved every minute. We did the shows one day and the water park the next day. Every show we went to was great. Feeding the dalfins was a wonderful experience. The whole family had a great time.

Of course see Shamu. I also wish we could have fed the dolphins...if you have things like that you want to do, do it!

I think the best thing to do is to check the website and you'll see all the avl options. Decide early your top 3 things you REALLY want to do. Then when you get there, get a map to find out how close they are to each other. THat way you can plan your time a little better, b/c all the shows and events have a timed schedule.

Ask about a "behind the scene" tour. You get to really see how everything works - very interesting!
