I am looking for a great book to give older children (9 and 7) in preparation for a new baby. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi! I don't know of any books, but just yesterday heard about a fun idea for older siblings when a new one arrives.
A customer of mine told me about how her grandson just had his own "baby shower" just before the birth of his new little sister. He is 11 years old and has been the only child, but his mom's friends thought it would be fun. It was like a bday party, but they called it a "big brother party." He got gifts and had a cake and all.
Just a thought. It could be a little much for 2 children but I thought the idea was cute.
Congrats on your new miracle and best wishes!
Hi Amethyst
Brooke Shields just wrote a book on this very topic. I am not sure of the title, but if you google Brooke Shield's new book it should come up.
Good luck.

Amethyst, You don't mention how old your children are, so it's hard to tell you what to get. I would go to Barnes and Noble or Borders and ask in the children's department.
Before my daughter was born, the Barnes and Noble in Walnut Creek had some good suggestions for my then 2 1/2 year old son. He and I sat down together and I got the one(s) that appealed to him. At first, he didn't even realize that the books related to him. But, after we brought them home and read them a few times, he began to understand.
we have never done books.
We're on our 3rd.
When #2 came we let #1 in on as many decision as appropriate.
Should the crib go here?
what sheet should we put on?
Do you like this sleeper? or this one?
This way she had a form of control.
She was 3 at the time.
She 'helped' her daddy put the bed together.
I have the cutest movie of when the baby was in the NICU and big one telling her sister "don't worry baby Layna I made your bed.."
I used A child is Born
http://www.amazon.com/Child-Born-Lennart-Nilsson/dp/04405...
It has photographs and will teach them everything. My neice and older daughter loved it and it stimulated a lot of questions. Having a baby is yet another opportunity to teach your children about life.
We used A Pocket Full of Kisses; The New Baby; God Gave Us Two; & You're All My Favorites.
I don't know how old your child(ren) is already, but we also used www.parenting.com. The pregnancy link has a week by week section that shows pictures of what the baby looks like at each stage of development, which my daughter loved looking at.
Good luck and congratulations! :)
Arthur's Baby by Marc Brown
Check out your local libary. They have a great selection of books on babies as well as being an older sibling. Arthur's Baby is a great one. If you find the video, you also get DW's Baby which is DW's version of the story.
Good luck!
