Seeking a Pick Your Own Berry Farm

With berries coming into season this month, I thought it would be fun to take my kids to a berry picking farm.
I would like an organic farm and I live in Apple Valley. I realize that we may need to travel a bit, but more than an hour away would be too much for us. Please help me locate a fun - organic - not too far from the cities - place to pick berries of any kind!

What can I do next?

I'll be watching your post because I was looking for the same thing last week. Afton Apple is a really fun place to go and very family friendly, but I'm pretty sure they aren't organic. Would love to know if you find out differently! We go there every year for apples and pumpkins. The kids have SO much fun there!
We were headed north last weekend and found Finke's Berry Farm (organic strawberries) near Moose Lake. It's about 2 hours away, but not far off the freeway for anyone headed to the Duluth, Cloquet, Iron Range area. We used the "pickyourown" link below to find it. Good luck!

We go to Applewood orchards in Lakeville. We went last week though and i think their strawberry picking is done. They do have raspberries though.

Look into Afton Apple in Afton...right outside of Woodbury. I believe they do not use pesticides and it is a family business.

There used to be some awesome pick-your-own places over in Farmington, but I'm not sure about that anymore.

Better yet, if you have a yard, seriously think about planing your own berry bushes! I have 2 raspberry bushes in my front yard that are producing bumper crops right now. They are so easy to grow. And it's great for me and the child to "pick our breakfast" in the morning :)

Just took my 4year old to pick raspberries with me. Plan on going for a short time would be my suggestion :) but it was a GREAT experience for him; to learn where food comes from- it doesn't just come from CUB. (we picked a little bit over 2 pounds together) I went somewhere close to me in Eden Prairie, but there are quite a few good places- go to www.minnesotagrown.com to find what's in your area- there are some good ones like, Silkey Gardens or Lorence's Berry Farm -both in Northfield. Good luck! Enjoy and yum!

This is the site I always use to find farms in the area. You may have to make some phone calls to see if they are organic. Many may not be certified organic but will testify that they do not use synthetic pesticides. Just ask. You have to hurry though because strawberry picking in the Twin Cities area is just about over. The farm I picked at this year (Bauer Berry Farm in Champlin) is done today. If you have plans to go up north, you may have better luck. It's a lot of fun!
