Has anyone been strawberry picking yet this year. I usually go every year, but sometimes I get there and they haven't started public picking yet. Have you been yet? Which one did you go to.....1-4 to which exit, etc. Thanks so much! I need fun stuff to do with the kids!!

I know the strawberry festival is starting Feb 28...so I would think you could pick strawberries for sure by then. You could take your kids to the Renaissance Festival that starts this weekend.

I also live in Tampa, FL and have a 6 1/2 month old girl.

We have been a few times this year. I love Bane's Hydroponic Farm, which is located off SR52. It is a very small farm and the produce is all organic. They also have snap peas, swiss chard, peppers, lettuce, soybeans and a few other things. They have tall towers to pick from and there is no dirt so it is easy for everyone. The website is http://baneshydroponicfarm.com/
I think they have berries from Nov-May.
have fun!

I usually take my son to HydroHarvest Farms in Ruskin (not very far off of I-75). Their website is www.HydroHarvestFarms.com. They are a hydroponic farm and use no pesticides, so the kids can eat the berries right off the plant if desired. Also, the plants are perfect for every height since they are not planted into the ground, but rather in stacked "pots" (which would be great for you since you are expcting; no bending down to pick berries). The farm also grows many other types of produce- lettuce, herbs, tomatoes, blueberries, etc, they you can pick. They have been open for picking since November and, I believe, don't close for the season until June.

We go every year as well. Most farms do not start doing U-Pick until after the Strawberry Festival starts. We usually go to Favorite Farms on McIntosh.
