Seeking Activities/Classes in Sacramento for My 2 Year Old

Hi there. I would really love to get my 2 year old involved in some sort of classes be it arts & crafts or fitness, etc. I'm having a really hard time finding any resources for these types of activities. I've found Gymboree, and that's about it. I wanted to see if anyone knew of any others that might be a little more "wallet friendly". I live near the UC Davis Med Center in South Sac and would love to find something that's close by (i.e. not all the way out in Roseville or in Elk Grove.)
Thanks in advance!

Hello P.!

I used to take my son to Kindermusic classes, they are from birth and up and they have different classes for different ages. There are a couple different locations, I went to the mid town one, that's probably closest to you. It's on 22nd between K and J. I wish I could do them still, my son had so much fun, I just don't have time right now. Here's the link

Take the classes with Cathy if you can. Jen's good too, but Cathy is better, I think.

When you sign up for a session you usually get the CD they are using from that session and a book or toy. They place music and you do little dances and sometimes play with musical instruments, it is so cute.

Hi P., try the City of Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation. Their website is www.cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation they offer lots of organized activities for children and adults of all ages. We have used them in the past and they are great. Good luck!

I suggest you check with your local parks and rec. department. THey usually have community centers that offer different classes for toddlers. At one time they were offering different child activies at Mckinley Park. Good luck.

Lets see......My son and I did gymboree, he liked it. There is also a place called 'My Gym', that I've only heard about, but I looked online and it looks fun. Also there is Planet gymnastics on Riverside. You can pay per class instead of a lump sum per month or year. Also we are starting indoor basketball at the YMCA on V street on MArch 10th. I believe it's for 2 to 5 year olds. Other than that I would check your local library. There is always stuff going on downtown for the kids, ie puppet shows, crafts, story time. Also there are a few toddler friendly playgrounds in Sacramento. I know Southside park on 7th and V has a special area for babys, toddlers, kids, and big kids. Also there is a park on 27th and P for 2 to 5 year olds. Good luck!

We are currently in Natomas but I lived in that area just a short while ago. He was 2 when we moved. I know about the resources and they are fun for the children and parents. The thing is the culture is different in the Oak park neighboorhood. Not that you cant enjoy it, I did you just have to be warned. Birth and Beyond is great. They offer very good mothers groups, community activities for the children, baby showers and little tickets for free diapers at the end of the month. Its really fun. You dont have to be low income and they dont deny anyone the right to attend. The children get to run and make friends (they have free play care) and the adults can socialize and learn new things about themselves and children. I one point they even had a workout class 2 days a week. Im fluent in spanish so it was easy to make friends. The English group which I also attended regularly had less consistancy. Many of them have to go to the classes for CPS and leave when they complete that. The program is funded through first 5 and it really changed my view about people and socializing and prejudging. I loved that program. Its so perfect cause most classes are over just in time for nap and you child is well socialized and you can pick and choose what days you want to go. I enjoyed the get wet events in the summer. All the celebrations and community info I learned. If I felt stuck I got out of the house. They always have a class. If I wanted my space I would go.

Now I take my son to the Capital City Aquarium thats free and he loves it. We also go to the pet store. He really likes animals. We attend preschool story time at the library and go feed the ducks. But he is social and misses child interaction when we are together. I'm not working for a couple of weeks and I'm having trouble planning activities too. They gotta use up all that energy. I take him to the park. I love being with him. But I will be back to work since we have found childcare. I go back to work the last week in May.

So I hope this helps. I would recommend swim lessons. Its good for both of you cause being pregnant in the summer is so HOT!

hope this helps
