I have found the front & back strollers work best. The side by side ones are to wide to get thru the aisles of the stores. Best of luck
I am looking for some real advice from all the moms out there on double strollers. I live in the city and walk to the daycare and to work. I am not sure what type of double stroller would work the best when maneuvering the city streets and stores.I have looked at the Phil and Teds, front and back strollers, and side by sides. Any advice is appreciated!

Get a Joovy Time Stroller from Babies R Us, or a Sit and Ride from Target. They are wonderful!!!! They have a place for an older child to sit in the back, where they can get in and out at will or be strapped in. And the younger child rides in the front. They are easier than the traditional doubles and they take up less space. If you fly a lot they are accepted in airports to gatecheck. Most doubles are not allowed because they are too big to gatecheck. Good luck!
mclarens are the best to maneuver around .... i have a single one... and i know moms who have the double.... the wheels are flawless. they swival smoothly and they look simple and sleek... best for any moms walking in crowded malls or crowded city sidewalks....
big thing to remember is the width ...people have problems at times with apt. doors, check out aisles from your grocery store and clothes aisle...
another one i found while looking for myself was..
Chicco Citta Twin stroller... heard good things about that too.
GOOD LUCK

This is the Evenflo take me too stroller that I have and I love it. The sunshade in the front pulls up when the kids are in the stroller and my 4yo can still fit under it. There's lots of room in the basket. Here's the link http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4875446
I have a double wide Peg Perego Aria and love it. It is SOOOO light and super easy to push. Both of my kids (now 2 and 4) also love it since they both get equal viewing and seats. They are both stroller lovers. They would much rather ride than walk.
I always wondered how the Phil and Teds would work once the 2nd child got bigger and was stuck under the first child with no real view. (Equality is a big issue with my kids.)
However, I will say that on uneven city sidewalks the little wheels of my Aria can be a challenge. Off and on I've considered a double jogger for the more uneven terrain but have yet to commit to it.
I went all over looking at every kind of stroller before finally picking the Aria. For me the side by side Combi and others that have the 3rd set of wheels wasn't something I wanted b/c I kept kicking the middle set of wheels while walking. However, they fold up really small and that is always nice. Some of the doubles are just so heavy. I was never really sold on the front and back style. A friend gave me a sit and stand that we have only used a couple of times. I'd rather use the Aria.
As a side note once I figured out what I wanted I found great deals on new strollers on ebay. I saved about $100 over the price of the Aria at local stores.
Good luck.
My children are 16 months apart and I recently bought my double stroller. I decided to go with a side by side. I am really happy with my decision. It is narrow enough to fit through doorways and I feel more in control. When my younger babe was newborn I would lay her down while keeping my older guy upright. It kept him from getting to her. Not to mention the one I selected has huge basket storage space.
I would get the front and back stroller. City streets are very crowded. Also you will be able to fit in elevators and get through doorways more easily. One Step Ahead has a nice one where you can have one sitting and also put an infant carrier in the front seat. They also have the kind where one can stand in the back and the other can be in the front seat. One Step Ahead is on the pricier side though so you may want to shot around a little more.
Hi C.,
I have a two year old and a 6 month old. After much research, I ended up buying the Phil & Teds e3 double stroller. I love it. It is very pricey, but in my opinion it is totally worth it. It is the size of a single jogger, but the second child rides in the back. I wanted something that wasn't bulky, that I could fit in & out of stores when shopping, and one that I could take outdoors when I want to excercise. It fits all of my needs. It's not lightweight, so if you have to store it and take it up and down steps, that might be kind of a pain, but I think any double stroller would be a pain to get up and down steps. I really can't say enough about it- it's so easy to push with both kids in it- much better than the double Graco that I had. That thing weighed a ton and was so cumbersome. Hope this helps!

Hi C.,
My advice would be to sling the baby and put the toddler in a small fold-up stroller. The double strollers are so hard to steer and negotiate curbs, doorways, etc. with, I can't stand them. This is what I did with mine, and it worked great in the city, with walking, shopping (still had the cargo hold of the stroller) and riding public transport. I used a Baby Bjorn in the beginning, and a classic sling afterwards until #2 was almost 2 (there are a variety of ways to wear/carry them). I am not large or particularly strong, but this solution worked great. Often I only had #2 in the sling and #1 walked, but he walked early, didn't like sitting in a stroller, so this may not be an option for others.
Good luck!

I am a mom with a set of active twins in a very active lifestyle. I use the greco duo stroller that holds both up to 40lbs each. It's lightweight and easy to manage unlike the Jeep Cherokee. You could get a good deal many times over at Burlington coat factory. Just a thought.
Depending on what city you live in... city streets are either very well maintained, or in older cities show signs of age with pits and bumps and unevenness due to tree growth. IF where you walk is uneven, I would suggest a double jogger. Only "problem" is they (at least all that I am aware of) are recommended for children over 6 months of age... The single wheel in the front makes maneuvering so much easier than a traditional stroller. Also, meansure the door at the childcare site, some are too narrow for a double jogger to fit through.
If you are in an area where the streets are even, I agree with the idea of a sit and stand.
Best wishes!
Check out the sit and stand strollers. They might be easier for you. Just not sure if the newer models have the reclining seat or not-mine was made in the early ninties or thereabouts lol
I have seen a stroller where a smaller child can stand on a little ledge and ride on the back of the stroller. I do not mean to add another for you to choose from, but I would investigate that possibility as well. I have a daughter 6 and a son 2, and, when they were younger, my daughter would have loved to ride on one like that. She always hated sitting in the stroller anyhow. Hope it helps! By the way you have a beautiful name :-)
I kept my little one in the sling and pushed big brother in a single stroller for as long as possible. Then we moved to a side by side schwinn double jogger with swivel front wheel. I love this stroller but it is a little wide so I'm not sure how that would work for crowded stree.
I can tell you which ones not to buy. I hate the eddie bauer with reversible seats... It sounds cool but is inpossible to manuver.. IT hurt my wrists. Also, i do not like the combi side by side. I did like the jeep double stroller side by side but inly tried my children in it in the store... I am afraid to buy another stroller b/c i have hated them all so far. Let me know if you find a good one!
I personally like the front and back twin stroller. It has been a life saver at times.
