My husband and I decided to spend the 4th of July downtown. We're staying at the Swissotel. I was wondering if anyone has stayed there and would love to hear about your experience. I would also like to find a nice romantic restaurant to have dinner on the night of the 4th. I thought of the Mystic Blue Cruises but have never done before so I don't know if it's worth the money. Any recommendations would be appreciated. We haven't gone away since our baby was born a year ago and we'd love to celebrate our anniversary in style. Thanks!
Gejas all the way. We just went there for our anniversary and had a great time. The only problem is it is hard to get a reservation so book early and you can always cancel if you find something else.
I would definitely suggest Geja's Cafe which is near Lincoln Park Zoo. It is one of the most romantic restaurants that my husband has ever taken me! It is a fondue restaurant with very dim lighting and live soft music. Very good and VERY romantic. You can check out my review of this restaurant at...

I LOVE Japonais. We go there a few times a year and is still my favorite in the city. There is a lounge outside on the river - great martinis and the food is so outstanding. It is pricey but you can't beat the atmosphere. It is pretty trendy so there's usually a celeb siting if that's your thing.
Hi M.! Sounds like you have a weekend of fun coming up! I would highly recommend Geja's Cafe on Armitage. It's a fondue restaurant and I believe is suppose to be one of the most romantic in the city. It has a great atmosphere and the food is fantastic. It's a bit on the pricier side but worth it for a weekend of splurging. Have fun with your hubby!
Not really any advise just a warning. Downtown is going to be VERY busy that night due to the Taste of Chicago/fireworks and all the activities. So I would stay clear of the area near the taste. Good luck.
**yes, I am wrong, the fireworks are on the 3rd, but it will still be busy on the 4th because of the Taste.
My husband and I used to live downtown, east of Michigan Ave. We love seafood, so I'd recommend Blue Water Grill--cool atmosphere, sleek decor, low lights, very romantic. We also like Roy's. I've heard great things about the restaurant on top of Lake Point Tower (the name escapes me at the moment) not to mention the fantastic view of the lake.
I know people love Geja's. We've been there, and it's just not our favorite. Plus, b/c you cook your own food (fondue)--everything's deep fried, dipped in cheese or chocolate and you end up smelling like the place. Just thinking out loud.

Another mom mentioned fire works on the 4th -- I thought they were traditionally on the 3rd, but don't know for sure so you may want to check. Either way, maybe call the hotel concierge for a recommendation of a place on the river? It'd be romantic and if you have reservations and the fireworks are taking place that night, you'll have prime seating.
