Hi N.,

I also tested positive while having my period. We went immediately to the emergency room to determine positive for pregnancy. Due to the bleeding, the doctors saw me immediately.

Take Care,
M.

N.,
I have given birth to three children and suffered a miscarriage and with each and every one I had a period the first month of pregnancy! With one pregnancy, I had a regular period (and I have a heavy flow) for the first trimester. It totally freaked me out, but my doc said it happens??!!!???.
No other advise except to say that it happens to others, so it might be for you as well.

honestly I would have gotten very rude with the doctor office. It is possible for you to be pregnant and still have your period. a friend of mine had her periods every month until she was nearly 6months pregnant. so with that said deffenitly get to see your doctor. Then tell them off lol. cause they should not have denied an appointment after all they are the ones that can tell you yes or no for sure and that if your not check your hormones cause they can cause false pregnancies when off balance.

otherwise good luck and I hope you get the answer your wanting either yes or no.

For some reason, the urine tests never seem to be very accurate for me at the beginning of pregnancy. I go in to get a blood test when I really think that I might be. At my doctor, it costs $40 - but to me well worth it to know for sure. You might do that to let you know for sure one way or the other.

Many women will bleed when they're pregnant with no effect on the pregnancy. What I don't understand is why they won't see you if you have a positive pregnancy test, that's crazy. The chance of a false positive is very low.

If your doctor won't see you now, I would say find another doctor to go to. Not to worry you, but there might be something wrong if you're not pregnant. Good luck!

I would call your Dr's office back and leave a message for your DOCTOR to call you. I think it was highly rude and unprofessional how you were treated. Discuss it with him but I would recommend having the blood draw done, it's the most accurate way of determining if you're pregnant. I'm a military wife and the last time I was pregnant that is how base made the determination NOT by the pee test.

BTW- My OBGYN is Dr. Murphy...he has offices in Leavenworth and North Kansas City as most of his practice is out of Providence North. I HIGHLY recommend him. He is the most compassionate, caring, and thoughtful Doctor I've EVER had! He REALLY REALLY listens to you and treats you as if you were his one and only patient.

Hi N.,

I had a lighter period than normal and I was pregnant- sometimes the body does not fully recognize the pregnancy and has to have a last word as far as periods go! I spotted for 8 weeks into my pregnancy (but I was always such a heavy bleedier adn it was my body's way of clearing out the old blood as my doctor put it). Are you ahve any other symptoms, breast tenderness, nausau, morning sickness, etc? I would wait til your period stops and then test again. If that comes back positive than call your dr and make an appt- they usually do not see you until you would be 8 weeks along. I waited two weeks after my period to test again and it came back positive three times and I had my baby in July! : ) Good luck to you!

Your doctors office can't refuse to get you an appointment. If they did, then call back and talk to someone else and DEMAND that they get you an appointment. That is just insane. There is no way they can expect a person to know what is going on excatly...That's why we have doctors... Or it's supposed to be. I say find a new doc or report the person you talked to. That's just wrong.
As for the preg. test. At home tests are pretty accurate and the feeling to check says your body knows something is off. Go to your local health department to get a free pregnancy test. You don't even have to tell them anything other than you think you might be pregnant. In the mean time start researching doctors in your area. Ask questions and see who your friends go to. Time for a new doc. :D Good luck.

Actually, the blood tests can tell really early. In 1984 I got a positive pregnancy test (blood) when I was only 5 days pregnant. I wasn't with anyone else and I was only with the guy once. So I know exactly what day I had to conceive. I went into a planned parenthood to get on birth control 5 days later. They said that my uterus felt a little swollen and that I either was pregnant or had a cyst. So they sent me to the hospital and they drew blood. The next afternoon they called me and told me that I was indeed pregnant...just 6 days! That was one very long pregnancy to know so early. :) My daughter will be 25 this year :)

I say you should definitely get to a doctor. But it may be that they don't want to do an exam on someone that is bleeding. It may also be that they get a lot of people that believe they are seeing lines on those tests when they really are not.

Good luck. I hope you get what you want.

you could have had a chemical pregnancy. I had one 6 months before i got pregnant with my second child. The first few home test I took a few days before i was due to start my period showed negative then I had a couple that showed positive. A couple days later my period began. There still can be that slight chance of having a period or spotting while pregnant. I agree with you doctor to wait and take another test in a few days. The blood test in the office dont detect much of the pregnancy hormones this early. Good luck

N., first I would say that you might consider getting a different doctor. Dr. James Mirable is fabulous and would see you to help determine. I had full flow cycles during the first part of both of my pregnancies. I didn't know I was pregnant with my daughter until I was 15 weeks along, and 12 weeks with my son several years later. It is something most people don't hear about but it is definitely possible to continue having a period while you are in fact pregnant.

Good luck!

If your doc's office wont see you (and i agree with the others, that is very unprofessional!!) try a family planning clinic or try another hospital. They cannot refuse to see you. Even if its just for a pregnancy test - maybe try the OBGYN

Good luck!

I'd call your doc office back and make them test you. If they aren't understanding, I'd find another doc. It is possible to have bleeding like your period while pregnant. It sounds to me like you are indeed pregnant! Congrats & good luck!
