Seeking Best Place to Meet Mom's like Me!

I'm a 44 year old mom to a 6 month old little girl. My husband and I have been happily married 11 years before our daughter arrived. He's an exec who travels quite a bit during the week and I have a leadership consulting business. We are fortunate to have wonderful help and my office is in my home so I'm still nursing and spend a lot of time with my daughter during the week.

I'm just coming out of the fog of having a baby, it took me way longer than I expected to adjust! And I'm looking for recommendations to a country club in Coastal North County (Del Mar - Encinitas) or some sort of group where I can connect with mom's who are fun and have younger kids. My neighborhood is great, but all of the kids are driving and moving on to the next stage of life. I'm feeling a little isolated and not sure where to meet friends who are also mom's to younger kids.

What can I do next?

Sounds like you want a mom's group, but you mentioned a country club. I would definately recommend Pacific Athletic Club, not far from Del Mar, but considered Carmel Valley/Del Mar Heights. They have fabulous things for the kids and the kiddy pool is full of SAHM's.
If you are not looking for that but looking for a mom's group you definately need to sign up with The Parent Connection through Scripps. They rule for the great mom's groups.

There are tons of playgroups through The Parent Connection. My kids are older now, but there are playgroups in each and every community in San Diego and beyond, even specialty playgroups with older moms, younger moms, moms of twins, etc. It's great.

try the enc.ymca!try to find mommy and me groups in your neighborhood!some of the mommys may be a different age but if you have the same age kids you will have something to connect with.jimbory-but im not sure what the age requirement is?i do understand about the age difference thing though.my son is older than my cousin!:)my aunt waited and i do believe it may make the adjustment a bit harder.what i kept telling my aunt was that you just had to keep trying and just get out there.since summer is comeing i am sure you can find alot of mommy and me classes.try noonan swim school in del mar.if you feel ok about doing early swiming lessons with your daughter, its a great place.it is right by the fair grounds.small-and they are great there.my aunt took her son there when he was young!MY ADVICE IS TO CHECK OUT THE YMCA THOUGH.good luck,A.

Have you tried Le Leche League? This is a wonderful support group for moms who are or have been breastfeeding (or even interested in breastfeeding). But, it's not just about nursing. These are great moms who have various backgrounds, ages, experience, personalities, opinions, etc. I'm sure there is at least one group that meets in north county.

you can try MOMS Club. it is an international club that has been around for over 20 years. there are chapters everywhere. if you go to www.momsclub.org, you can learn more about it and find a chapter in your area. I know that there is a MOMS Club in Oceanside, but I don't know if it also encompasses Del Mar-Encintas. Also, another organization that focuses on moms with younger children is MOPS (Moms of Preschoolers). Preschoolers meaning before your child is in formal schooling. You can attend up til your youngest child is finished with kindergarten. It is a faith based organization, however their goal is not to shove it down your throat. I am catholic, and attended MOPS at a Baptist Church, where there were moms there represented from lots of different Christian churches. you can also learn more about them at www.MOPS.org. Both places I have met moms whose friendships and children I treasure dearly. Also if you take your daughter to Gymboree classes, or some kind of mommy and me class, you will more than likely meet other moms like you, since they group the classes according to age. good luck!

You can try meetup.com. I signed up for a couple of the mom's groups on there... but I will warn you and I hope you don't take it personally... most of the moms with babies your age are young. I am only 30 but because my friends are all in their 40s and my bf is also in his 40s I feel very much out of place... but I keep trying! I'd be happy to get together with you if you'd like... feel free to email me to get to know me a little better :)

Hi K.,

I am a 43 year old mom to a 2 year old boy in Carlsbad. We just took a tour of La Costa Resort and Spa today which we are thinking of joining. I really thought it was wonderful, several pools including a nice baby pool with sprinklers ect. Aso, they have a place called kidtopia for kids 6 mos to 12 yrs that seemed great for babies/toddlers. They have social events for members including 'mommy and me' classes and also a members social on Thursday nights for which you receive complementary child care. More info at: http://www.lacosta.com/activities/beachandpools.asp
I'm not sure where you are in Encinitas/Del Mar but if its not too far it may be worth checking out. We had a very gracious sales woman who also picked up our brunch check at Legends restaurant at the resort so it was a very nice Sunday morning.

I know just what you mean about the fog, I don't think I really got back to myself until after the first year. I am a working mom too and sometimes it seems like everything is whizzing by so fast since I am so busy. But, it just gets better and better for my husband and I and I am so grateful for my healthy, beautiful son! Good luck to you and your family!

I highly recommend you look into The Parent Connection. This is a service provided through Scripps Hospital. They offer many classes on various child rearing subjects and also has a extensive network of playgroups. You can check out their info at www.scripps.org and select the "services" option at the top of the page.

If you're interested in meeting other moms in your area with children who are close to your daughter's age then they will be able to refer you to one.

I joined a playgroup when my son was 6 months old (he is now 7) and we are still going strong. The moms in my playgroup are my best friends now and even though our kids go to different schools we moms still see each other on a regular basis.

Hi K.,

My husband got our family a membership to the La Costa resort and spa last may as a Mother's day/Birthday gift to me. Like you I was wrapped up in my own little happy world of nursing, naps, and trying to juggle everything else in there with it.
I have truly enjoyed being a member of the resort and it's helped me to get used to doing things for myself like working out and maybe lunch with a girlfriend once in a while at the resort restaurant.
My husband is an executive account manager and travels a lot during the week. The resort has been a great place for my daughter and I to play and meet new people while he is away. And on the weekends it's an oasis for our family to relax by the pool, play tennis, and spend quality time together. As a memeber the childcare facility called Kidtopia is available to us 9am-4pm for children 6 months - 12 years. Two hours a day every day exept Saturdays are free to members and it's $10 an hour after that. babies 6 months to 3 years old are at a ratio of 2 babies to 1 care giver which was wonderful for our daughter who was 21 months when she started there. When our daughter turns 3 in just a few weeks they have other childcare options that open up for us. If needed there is a full day camp drop off option. And date night every thursday where they will entertain our daughter at kidtopia and feed her dinner while we dine at one of the restaurants there at the resort.

There is a mother's group at the resort that meet's Wednesday's in the late morning and Friday's in the late afternoon. Year round there are activities that the resort puts on for the kids like cookie decorating, art activities, children's book readings etc.

Please feel free to email me if you want to know more.

Hi K.,

Have you looked into the Pacific Athletic Club in Carmel Valley? http://www.pacsandiego.com/web/site/ There is a children's center where your child can stay while you exercise and socialize. I am sure you would be able to find other mommy friends in the Del Mar area.

Do you have a website for your leadership consulting business? If so, please send it to me. I'm researching Executive Coaches in the San Diego area.

6 months is pretty early be out of the fog. :-)

I would definitely look into the Stroller Strides group in your area! It's a blast, the children are usually younger and it's a great workout for you! Check out www.strollerstrides.com then search by your zipcode.

It's awesome : )

Dear K.,

I am a 43-year-old first-time mom to Alexander, who is now 19 months old. It was a real life adjustment for me, too, as I first went to university, then worked for 15 years, including running my own business, and got married late in life, and wanted and finally had our child! There are several Meetup.com groups for San Diego Moms over 35, La Jolla/PB Moms over 40 with preschoolers, Hip Mamas Carmel Valley, which I joined and found very helpful. Just hanging out at the playground near UCSD where I live helped me get to talk to other moms. Joining La Leche League is great for breastfeeding support for years to come and forming lasting friendships into the toddler years. Stay in touch! Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl - enjoy her as much as possible while she is young! Love, C.

Have you tried looking at meetup.com.
It is a website thats free that you put in your zip codes and groups within your area will show. They have all kinds of groups including moms with kids groups. I am part of one up in Oceanside called Little explorers.

I hope you find a moms group to meetup with.
