My infant is 7 months old and I am currently feeding him cereal with formula for his first feeding in the am and his last feeding in the pm. During the day, he is eating just formula every four hours. Prior to his evening bottle, I give him Gerber 1st or 2nd foods (1 container). Should I be feeding him more baby food? My Dr. says no...but he has a very healthy appetite......

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
My kids are 12 and 7 now..so I'm going back a ways..but by that age..my kids were on the stage 3 babyfood, and I had started introducing fruit, cut up into pieces on the tray for breakfast, to go along with the baby food. For Lunch, I was introducing the Gerber meals, or even spaghettio's, and for Dinner they were also getting the gerber meals. At seven months old, they won't be on baby food much longer..so stage 3 foods are appropriate. You can also start cooking noodles and cutting them up really small. I used to cut up a piece of ham into tiny pieces and put this in with the noodles. When you are having potatoes and veggies for dinner, give your child what you are eating. It's getting to that time where you can introduce real food. Dr's are great..but they go by a book, and usually don't suggest any of this.

Thats weird your doctor says no. My daughter is 7 months old as well, born June 1st. She was eating 4 6 oz bottles of formula a day, and a bowl of baby cereal mixed with a container of Gerber 1st foods twice a day. I used a clean scoop from the formula container to scoop the cereal out of a tupperware container (much easier than eyeballing with the boxes). Anyway, I usually use 4 scoops of cereal. At her last appt, the doctor said that she should be at 3 bottles and 3 meals now. So she has a bottle in the morning, a bottle in the afternoon and a bottle before bed. She has "breakfast" of 4 scoops cereal, 1 container of Gerber 2nd foods (usually fruit at breakfast), mixed with a little bit of either water or warm baby juice, just to soften the texture. That's around 9am. At 12:30 or so she has lunch of the same thing and depending on the day that could be fruit or veggie. her bottle is usually around 4. Dinner is at about 5:30/6pm always with a vegetable. And her bedtime bottle is around 8 at the latest. The times differ but thats what the doc said. She's a very healthy 16 and a half pounds, 27 inches long. I say, whatever the baby wants, they should get. As long as he's not overweight, I don't see the big deal. Good luck.

I don't think so he's only 7 months and some babies start to want more and more and then their maybe a growth spirt. My sister fed my nephew alot when he was a baby, she would alway say he likes to eat and he's hungry. Now he is over weight, I am not a doctor or any nutitionist. But some times it does happen. I think your giving him the right stuff now. I think the Dr. is right!! Plus some things we eat. we have a hard time digesting so can you imagine a baby, pooping out chicken and steak! lol. I hope I gave some advice if any.

Sarah,

My son is also 7 months old and my doctor told me he should be eating 2.5-3oz of solid foods three times a day. so if he is eating oatmeal twice a day and regular baby food once he should be good. However if you think he isn't getting enough try mixing some oatmeal in with his stage one or two. That is what I do and my son loves it. He eats that three times a day with formula in between. He now only eats stage two because stage one isn't enough. Also my son will push my hand away if he doesn't want anymore so i'm sure he will tell you when he is full.

Hope this Helps!

My son is 9 months old and we are feeding him just about everything we eat. You shouldn't worry about how much, cause I bet you that he will tell you when he is full. He is old enough now to recognize that feeling. If you think he may not be able to tell just watch what he is doing. When you are feeding him at first notice how he is focused on only eating. By the time he is full he may just keep eating, but be more interested in his surroundings and not so focused on the food. That is how we could tell my son was getting full. Not so interested as he was when he first started eating. GL!!!

S. my son was 9 pounds 3 ounces when I had him and he had a very healthy appetite. If your son doesn't want it he wont eat it so I would try it. My son was eating eight ounce bottles and 2 jars of baby food at the age
