Seeking Fertility Specialist or Really Good OB/GYN in Glendale.

Hi Moms! I have been trying to conceive for nearly 9 months with no success. My little girl is 15 months. I have tried everything short of seeing a doctor, including forking over the $200 for the Clearblue Easy Monitor, reading books, taking temps, etc. I am relatively young (30), so I'm not sure what the problem is. Can anyone recommend a fertility specialist or a really good OB/GYN (preferably in a group - my last OB had her own practice, and the wait times were insane!) I need a new doc for the regular stuff as well... Many thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the recommendations! I should clarify that I don't think I'm infertile, per se, but would like to be checked out to make sure there isn't anything obvious that might be hampering my abilities to conceive. It would be an added bonus if the OB also specialized in fertility, or had someone in the group that did - just in case! Thanks again!

We had trouble conceiving and Dr. Ronald Woodard helped us with artificial insemination. He's my OB/GYN and delivered both my boys. His office across from Verdugo Hills Hospital. It's a wonderful hospital to deliver in as well. His staff is lovely, he does have a group that he's part of they're incredibly efficient. Here's his info...

My OB/GYN, whom I love, is also a fertility specialist.

Dr. Michael Frields

He's at the Physicians terrace next to Glendale Adventist medical center.

Might I also suggest that you check into the Fertility Awareness Method, if you haven't already. It shed a wonderful light, for me, on how my body works, which ultimately allowed me to conceive my daughter in one month after struggling to conceive my first child. Good luck and happy conceiving!

I meant to respond to this when you sent it, and just realized I never did. I apologize for the delay and hope you still find this information helpful.

I highly recommend Dr. Ignacio Valdes in Glendale ###-###-####). He is located at 1500 S. Central Avenue, and is located directly across the street from Glendale Memorial Hospital.

I have been a patient of his for a couple years now, and he just delivered my son this past July. He is an excellent doctor, has an excellent bedside manner, and is extremely skilled. His entire staff is also very good! Although he is the only one in his practice, I never had any issues with long waits, so long as I scheduled my appointments either first appt in the morning, first appt after lunch or last appt of the day. For as many doctor's visits as you have during your pregnancy, I never felt as though I had to wait a terribly long time for any appointment.

Additionally, I really liked my experience with Glendale Memorial Hospital. I had a lot of complications after the delivery of my son, and all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers there were extremely good to me. I spent a couple days in ICU, and 5 days in the maternity ward - so I was there a long time with my baby. In fact, I owe all of them my life - especially Dr. Valdes! I feel very fortuntate and would definitely deliver another baby there without question.

I wish you good luck!

Both Dr.W.James Henneberg and Dr.Jeffrey Nelson
are in Pasadena and they are wonderful. They helped us have our son after multiple miscarriages. Dr. Nelson monitored the initial fertily issues and then Dr. Henneberg took over and managed the remainder of the pregnancy. I hope that is close enough to Glendale to work for you.

As one of the other moms stated, you are not considered infertile until you have been attempting to achieve pregnancy for over one year. Now, I do have a question. Were you nursing your daughter during any of the 9 months of trying? If so, that could be part of why you have not achieved pregnancy. I have some friends who have become pregnant while nursing, but they are few in number. Many doctors suggest that you need to be free from nursing for at least 4 months before you truly have the opportunity to become pregnant. I don't have a suggestion for an OB/GYN since we go to Cedars Sinai doctors. There is one truly great Reproductive Endocrinologist we have gone to. He helped us achieve pregnancy with our son through artificial insemination, but he provides many other fertility services as well. He has offices in Encino and Thousand Oaks. He is worth the drive if you get to that point.

My OB/GYN Rebecca Perlow is in Tarzana but I'd highly recommend her to anyone.

When I was trying to get pregnant in my 30's I was told they don't consider you infertile/having fertility issues until you haven't had any luck for over a year. I was told you only have a 25% chance of pregnancy each month, 80% over the course of a year.

My stepdaughters (18 and 20) have struggled a lot with that 2 year spread... they compete for friends and parents attentions. Another few months might be the perfect age spread for your children. In the meantime, your daughter gets this special one-on-one time that she'll never get again. I'm an only child, and I'd have to say that's not a bad thing either.

Please don't assume there's a problem with you until you're told there is. It just may be a matter of timing. The good news is that you know you CAN get pregnant, because you already have! I've seen a lot of want-to-be moms get so stressed about GETTING pregnant, they aren't relaxed and enjoying the intimacy, so be careful not to let it stress you and your husband out. Remember to keep your husband out of the hot tub and wearing loose cool boxers... the heat can really mess with his side of things.

I believe it will happen for you when the time is right. Good luck! : )

You can also try Dr. Sofya. She's in Burbank and shares an office with Dr. Pearson, but the wait times haven't been too bad. She's absolutely wonderful and she does specialize in fertility (though I don't know from personal experience). 818- ###-###-####.

Since you are so young, I would advise you to wait a full year before seeing a specialist. At your age they really don't consider you infertile, yet. You're very young, you've had a baby, secondary infertility is not that uncommon and quite often temporary.
If you do seek treatment go to a fertility clinic not an OB/GYN.
Hunntington Reproductive in Pasadena is close to you but, there's a doctor in Encino who pioneers reproductive procedures. His name is Dr. Michael Vermesh.
Google these places and you can find a site that graphs how many births from what procedure.
Don't worry. You will have another baby.

Hi, N.,

I consulted with Dr. Sahakian of Pacific Fertility Center in Westwood. I went through fertility treatment (IVF, ICSI, and IUI) with Drs. Meldrum, Wisot, Yee, Rosen and Cassidenti of Reproductive Partners in Redondo Beach. (They work in various locations. Their Beverly Hills clinic is probably the closest one to you.) I highly recommend both practices.

I've heard good things about Huntington Reproductive Partners, which I think is the closest fertility clinic to you, from other people who have battled infertility.

Nine months of trying to conceive without the desired result does not sound alarming, I would more likely think that something was amiss if 18 months had gone by without success.
However, it also doesn't seem unreasonable to consult an infertility specialist. Better to be proactive and cautious than too late. (Some women I know took their time thinking that they could afford to wait, waiting until their forties to try--too late to conceive their own genetic offspring--to their dismay.)

Good luck!
