I live in Oak Park and spend a ton of money on food at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I am now a member of the Lug N' Carry Food Coop. We order monthly (there is no minimum amount you need to order and you don't need to order every month). We even split cases of products to ease the financial burden. This is not a fresh food coop, but everything else you would buy at the store that is not in the produce or meat aisle.
I buy toiletries, cleaning products, frozen food, dry goods, etc... We save a ton of money by doing this. Let me know if you want more details. We are now accepting new members.

Can you please send me more information about this coop. I was apart of Lembas coop until they closed. I initially thought it would not be that big of a difference in my grocery bill but I was wrong. So, I am now on the prowl for a new coop.

I am interested but I live in Elk Grove Village not sure how that will work. I asume you have a pick up location in Oak Park. I guess it would depend on how many times I would need to drive there, I don't think it is too far.
Anyway, my son had problems when he was a baby now he has a diagnosis of PDD-NOS so we have been wanting to start gluten free / dairy free but the big hurdle is a picky eater and money. We went to Whole foods to try some food he might eat and paid lots for some food like cereal that he would not eat. I want to go organic and hormone free with everything and go green with our cleanig products.
I guess you can tell I have high hopes but am overwhelmed at this point.
I think this is a great idea and would like more info.

My mom has shopped at DOLLAR STORE for 10 years on LaGrange Rd just north of Rte 66 on the west side of the street in the Home Depot shopping center. She pays only $1.00 for every one of the products you have to buy by the case and saves much more money. Try it. All dollar type stores are not the same. Their prices can vary from $1 and go up up up! Mom even gets laundry soap for 1 buck!!! they carry everything from greeting cards, party bags/wrapping paper, toys, birthday gift package toys, glassware, dishes, flatware, cereals, some frozen products, canned goods,artificial flowers, tools, etc. I can go on and on with the things they carry but why ruin it for you. Spend an hour in ther and save a fortune for yourself.
