Yep take her....! A child psychologist can get to the bottom of it...Maybe just a way of coping with stress and anxiety or something like mental illlness...Good job for looking out for her best interest.

Take her to see a child's psychologist. They can help you determine what the course of action will be. I wouldn't wait--do it asap so she can get some help. Tell her mom she needs to support her daughter and believe her---the worst thing she can do is say she doesn't believe her daughter---Your gd needs all the love and support she can get! No judgements and or teasing-this is serious and I hope it is treated as so.

It could be a coping mechanism for her. I'm not a psychologist but I would strongly suggest you take her to one.

If the voices are asking/telling her to do things - especially dangerous things - she needs to learn how to deal with this.

It's possible she could be having a chemical imbalance in her brain - I'd ask the pediatrician to run a blood/chem check to see what's going on. MRI's, CAT scans, etc. to ensure there isn't something in her brain that is causing this.

I would be upset with the pediatrician for, in my opinion, shoving her off without ruling out other issues - that would just chap my hide!! It's soo great that she is talking to you!! Don't judge her and don't tell her it isn't happening. Ask her to tell you what they are telling her to do, etc. keep the lines of communications open!!!

How long has this been going on?

Does she tell you what the voices say? WHAT the voices say to her is a big factor here.

If she were my daughter I would take her to see a child psychologist. I’m not saying she is having mental issues as I am not a psychologist myself, but I would be concerned if this is a cry for help or she truly is hearing voices.

I agree with Cheryl O. Do you have custody or is she just living with you? Can kids have schizophrenia? My mom said she would hear voices when she was diagnosed with it and would see things. Or maybe a chemical imbalance? Does it scare her or they tell her to do mean things? Keep believing in her and encouraging her like you are :) It's sad her own mom doesn't believe her :( Could it be from a lack of attention from her mom? Like if they have a bad relationship or need a stronger bond.

If she's the kind of kid who regularly does outlandish things for attention, I'd take it with a grain of salt. If it scares her, she's embarrassed to talk about it, and she's usually truthful, then it's most likely schizophrenia or another disorder. People tend to react negatively to a diagnosis that something is "wrong," but they shouldn't. It's the same as being diagnosed with diabetes or scoliosis or something else physical. It isn't anyone's fault, and it can be treated with medication. Make sure she understands how important it is to tell the truth during her mental health evaluation, even if she's embarrassed or afraid. Emphasize that she won't scare, upset or even surprise the doctor, and she should do whatever the doctor recommends.

My friends daughter was hearing voices and even running away from her in the middle of NYC ... she brought her to the DR. and she was diagnosed with Chron's Disease (SP?). Odd I know - but that's what happened the only other time I've heard about children hearing voices.

I think more likely it is a plea for attention. Document what they are saying to her, when she hears it, etc. and bring that information to a Child Psychologist. goodluck

Get her evaluated by all means, but there is also a HUGE chance that she is just making this up. The biggest clue for me here is her drawing. Now, if she would've drawn a somewhat normal looking person with a red hat or whatever, I would probably be more concerned. The fact is that she drew the typical monster creature that kids her age draw (my son is 8). Sounds like attention seeking behavior (which would also need to be addressed) or sometimes kids make stuff up because they don't know what else to talk about.
