I am looking for moms with special needs children. Any and all special needs welcomed. There is so much need in my area for support groups. I am in Pico Rivera. My surrounding cities are Downey, Montebello, Whittier, Rosemead, Norwalk. I would like to find moms who are interested in meeting for support and education. Topics of discussion included but not limited to: education on the function of the brain, going into detail about different special needs, coping with grief, medication, IEP and school systems, diagnosis etc. I recently attended a training seminar titled Educate, Equip and Support: Building Hope sponsored by United Advocates for Children and Families. This seminar inspired me so much I finally got the courage to ask anyone if they would like to get together. Many of us moms who have kids with special needs tend to become isolated and it can be very hard to reach out. This has been my case but I am tired of being alone in this. I know there are many moms in the same situation. Often we think we are the only ones going through these hardships. We are not alone and there are advocates out there fighting for our rights and our children's rights. I am lucky enough to have a mother-in-law who is a parent advocate. To moms of children of all special needs bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, autism, down syndrome, PDD, OCD, ADD/ADHD, ED, ODD, all acronyms welcomed. :)

S., I live up in Redondo Beach, but I'd be willing to drive somewhere once a month if it meant getting support. I also build websites for a living, so I could create an online support community as well. Email me if you're interested!

Our son is 6-1/2. He has been diagnosed with PDD as well. He also has auditory processing disorder, severe speech delay, dysgraphia and possibly ADD-inattentive type. Fighting with the school district has become a full-time job. We're exhausted!
