I live the 78259 zipcode. I live off of 1604 and 281, I love it we are close to everything and they are still building up around here. The school district is awesome. I live in the Redland Woods sub and it is nice and quite. Hope this helps.
My husband and I will be permanently relocating to SA in the next few months. We are visiting in a couple of weeks to look at houses in areas such as zip codes, 78247, 78259, 78250 and 78251. Any comments, suggestions on these areas would be greatly appreciated. We heard good things about the NEISD. Thank you in advance for your responses.

Our house is for sale. We live in the 78251 area code. It's a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage. It's located in a good area. We're just minutes from Sea World, Santa Rosa Hospital off of West Over Hills, schools, Lackland, Ingram, and well known businesses.

I've lived in the 78247, 78250 and 78251. They are all nice, middle class family areas. We had an apartment in 78251 right across from Sea World when my daughter was 3. We had season tickets and she was very very happy about that. The NEISD is a good district, though the schools in it run the gamut so do pick your individual school carefully. It does have a lot of magnet programs and even bilingual programs. There is a lot more outdoor stuff to do in the 78250/51 area. From what I can see, the 78251 has a lot of new development going on. Parts of it are very green, which we loved, but don't be fooled! It will all be developed soon. The 50 and 47 neighborhoods are more developed already.
I would think a lot about your husband's commute. The 51 and 50 for us were a terrible nightmare traffic jam on 1604 or on Bandera Rd every single day. 47 is better, but it depends on where you're going.

I moved to SA about 2 yrs ago from the Dallas area and love it!. I agree w/ Umber about NEISD-the schools vary in terms of "quality" of staff. My son has special needs and one school we have dealt with did their best to "withhold" info pertaining to my rights and gave minimal svcs to my child. However, the school he is at now, his teacher and the staff have been GREAT. I also hear that for typically developing students they are fine.I can't tell you much about those zip codes, though-I live more N Central. Best of Luck!
We live in 78248 and love it. Kids went to Christian school and are now in Northside District. Every school and district has pluses and minuses.
My kids don't attend new/ modern looking schools but for the most part have wonderful, caring teachers who communicate well with parents.
I'd trade that for a new building any day.
There is a lot of near construction and growth all along north SA. This is important to keep in mind when looking at traffic, and flood plains. When the developers rip up and build in an area, it changes the creek flow/ drainage sometimes. Work with a realtor who has CURRENT flood plain or high water risk areas.
It's not a huge problem, so don't be scared. But folks who have lived here for a while (11 years for us) know what areas are prone to high water and you don't want that area to be the only entrance to your neighborhood, for example.

Hey K., I too relocated from North Texas to SA about 3 yrs ago. We live in 78260 (Timberwood Park). We love it b/c we are outside the city (many deer reside and roam thru' the neighborhood) but just a few miles from Target, HEB and the major highways. There is a brand new elementary school in the neighborhood and our friends are really happy with it (they have an 11 & 8 yr old attending). The only bummer is the current construction on Blanco Rd as they are making it into a four lane rd. Other than that ~ we are very happy to be in the neighborhood. I've lived in San Antonio most of my life and my favorite part is Windcrest. We bought a home here about 3 years ago and it is wonderful! We are in NEISD (our zip is 78239) but Windcrest is actually it's own city in the middle of San Antonio! We have our own fire and police, so none of the 3 hours waits you get from living in San Antonio proper. We have TWO duck ponds, a golf course with a walking track, and a great playground and community center. Windcrest is known in San Antonio for being the "city of lights" because every year at Christmas we have a city wide light-up competition and it's so much fun! We have tons of parades and festivals for the kids. It's a very family oriented neighborhood and every street is 20 mph which makes it great for bike rides and walks. Most of the homes here have pools and nice yards and the homes go for around 150,00-170,000 for a 3 bedroom. I'm not a realtor, I've just lived all over San Antoio and really love this spot. Hey K. just wanted to let you know that when your looking at neighoods to make sure that the schools are not capped. I've noticed that no one has mentioned that to you. We have only been in SA for 9 months. We live up in the 78256 area. Just be careful of that. Even if you buy and the school is capped that means that your child will be bused to different school that maynot be in your area.
