We're moving to Odenton (close to Fort Meade) at the end of the month and I was wondering if anyone would recommend a good pediatrition. Thanks for your help!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to everyone who posted. I was so glad I asked the question. It helped me to find a great doctor in the Odenton area and we took our son there for the first time today and it was a great experience... not like we were used to and I have you all to thank for that! Thank you!

I take my daughter to the John Hopskin Odenton-Meade Health Center. Her doctor is Dr. Samniego. My daughter likes her & so do we. Good luck.

Why not use the Kimbrough Medical facility on Ft. Meade? We moved here 4 years ago and even though my husband can get medical insurance through his civilian job now, we opted not to and have been very happy with Tricare. I never have any problems getting same day appointments as long as you call in the morning, unlike some of my neighbors who use doctors off base. I would give them a try!

Hi...I'm a military wife leaving the area :) I was wondering if you are not using medical on base for a reason? We have taken our girls to the Clinic at the Naval Academy instead of Ft. Meade. They have a peds section there and both my girls adore the head doctor. (My youngest was 6 mos when we moved to the area 4 years ago)

Enjoy the area, traffic is horrible a lot of the time but you never want for something to do!

I live in Crofton and take our daughter to Annapolis Pediatrics. Our daughter's pediatrician is Dr. Parmele. He is a great doc. My husband liked him from the talk he gave in our prenatal class and wanted him as our pediatrician from the get-go. He has been great as have the other doc's in the practice. Plus they have three offices (Annapolis, Arnold, and Gambrills) to see your little guy. The one in Gambrills is closest to Odenton. They should be in the phonebook or at www.annapolispediatrics.com. Hope that this information is helpful and welcome to the area.

I highly recommend Annapolis Pediatrics. They have three office locations, however, the Gambrills location will be the closest for you. It's in the Waugh Chapel Village which you'll learn is a regular stomping ground for those in the Piney Orchard (Odenton / Ft. Meade) area I'm from Texas and understand the difficulty of finding trustworthy, dependable doctors, dentists, hair stylists, etc. Though the practice has several doctors, I regularly see Gwyn Reece, who is actually a Nurse Practioner but absolutely fabulous, and we also see Dr. Dana Kim. They are both so great and I am always comfortable going to and from my son's appointments. Don't forget to check out the MOMS Club of Odenton if you're going to be staying at home!!

Hi T.!

I'm assuming that you are going to be carrying non-military insurance so you'll have the freedom to choose your own non-military doctor. If that is the case then I highly recommend Dr. Ambush. He's located in Clarksville at 6100 Day Long Lane. It's a bit of a drive, but he's so worth it! He is the only doctor in the practice so it's pretty small which we love because we can get in for appointments quick. We're never left waiting in the reception area for more than a few minutes and he's great with our 4-month old daughter. He's been very good in the areas that are important to us: breastfeeding, immunizations, travel tips, helping out first-time parents without making us feel inadequate, etc.

If you want someone closer, Dr. Christopher Ish in Odenton is great according to some friends. He's also a family practice doctor so you could also see him. He's in the Johns Hopkins Clinic on Annapolis Road (175) and this practice is part of the military network so you could see him using Tricare. The only downside to this clinic is that it is so close to Fort Meade that all military personnel who don't want to drive to Bethesda go to this practice so it is busy!

Good luck with your move and with finding everything to make your relocation a success!

Ft Meade has excellent daycare opportunities for military and their dependents. I don't work full time, so I use their hourly care. You can call the CDC at ###-###-#### for info.

I really like Crofton Pediatrics - 410.721.CARE. They're affiliated with Nighttime Pediatrics, and a lot of the doctors have evening hours. (Plus they're only about 5 miles away.)

My daughter has been at La Petite Academy in Gambrills for a few years now, and we LOVE it! The staff is awesome, and the programs and education are way above par. The # is ###-###-####, and the Director is Emily Smalt.
