Seeking Nice Church with Lots of Room for Involvement

I would like to find a church for myself, 25, and son, 5, that we could become very involved with. Ideally, there would be a good, "unmarrieds," for me and a good children group for my son. I am open to different religions, though I grew up Catholic. I just want religion in our life with a church we both can be active in and meet nice people.

What can I do next?

Hi!
I also grew up Catholic but I never felt like I belonged & I was always known as "so & so's daughter". Now my girls are old enough that they want to go to church since we attended VBS this past summer. I'm married but considered "single" when it comes to going to church. My husband has nothing to do with it.

I finally converted to First United Methodist Church (www.fumcr.com) in Richardson (off of 75 just S. of Arapaho). I'm slowly learning what being Methodist is all about. They do take some of their teachings from the Catholic church & give communion. They are very much into giving back to the community & are VERY child friendly. They LOVE kids! (Huge plus in my book). And I'm meeting several other women who grew up Catholic too to where their husbands aren't fully involved in the church. I have never once felt "alone" in this church.

My girls ages 2 & 4 absolutely LOVE Sunday school. My 2 yr. old has always been clingy to me. But now she just walks into her Sunday school room & says, "good bye". It really makes me feel comfortable being there that she's having a good time.

Good luck with your search!!
Take care,
~K.

I am a 24 year old single mom of a 2-year old daughter and a 7 month old son. We attend Fellowship Church in Grapevine. It is a wonderful church. I grew up Catholic too, but sort of felt unwelcome after my divorce. At Fellowship, they do Single's nights, Single's bible studies, hometeams, etc. They usually offer childcare too! I have not been to one of these activities yet, because my divorce was just finalized, but I am thinking about trying one out soon so that I can make some friends. There are also a lot of Volunteer opportunities. I love it at Fellowship. It is the first church I have felt like I belonged to in a long time. If you want to know anymore, let me know.

God Bless,
B. B

I'd like to ditto the Fellowship Bible Church North in Plano. I've been going here for about 6 yrs now. It's amazing how welcome you'll feel; how they encourage more involvement at every level. They offer so many ministries to help with different stages of life. There is a single MOMS ministry; there is also a singles Life Group (like a twice a month Bible study where you can get to know others, fellowship); and they have an incredibly awesome children's ministry. All the workers that volunteer teaching the children have such wonderful gifts for teaching that really minister to young kids - they're so great at it.

The senior pastor is Jeff Jones -- incredibly talented, warm welcoming person. His sermons show you how you can apply Scripture to your daily life. And he has a great sense of humor.

There are some great studies to get involved in too... that's a great way to meet people too.... there's one called E-series that takes you through the "basics" of Christianity -- why do Christians believe what they believe... why do they do communion, why do they pray??? etc. Very interesting and informative study!

I highly encourage you to visit a service and try us out ... Friday night, 7 p.m.; or Sunday (3 services to choose) 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or Noon. Children attend their classrooms while the adults worship during the service times. Just go up to a KidZone booth and they can help direct you and check in your child -- very easy. Or better yet, feel free to contact me, and I can meet you at a service to give you a tour of the place. I'd be happy to do that!

I'm so happy that you're interested in getting involved in church and making that first step... that's wonderful!! Good for you!!

There is only one church that has a LARGE singles network and specifically single parents, a children's paradise that you won't have to drag them to every week (look at this! http://www.prestonwoodchildren.org/index.cfm/PageID/303/c..., and there is nothing to do BUT get involved in this church.

PRESTONWOOD
6801 W. Park Blvd, Plano, Texas 75093972-###-###-####

I do not live in Plano and attended Prestonwood pre marriage. My husband and I were married and attended and Episcopal Church here in Dallas but we did attend Prestonwood's BEFORE YOU SAY I DO classes and WE LOVED THEM. It is just too far for us to drive. The children's program is SUPER. Check out the website and arrive early on Sunday and someone can direct you to where you need to go.

I did see this and attached it so I hope you can read it.

First Baptist Dallas is awesome. It may be farther than you want to drive, as it is located downtown, but it is a large church with a single parent group. It could be what you are looking for. There are children programs and because of its central location, members are from all over. FBD offers 3 different sermon times on Sunday and because of its size, there is something always going on. If you want to participate a little or a lot, you can do it here and the people are sooo friendly. It is surprising that it is such a massive church because it has a very intimate feeling to it.

If you want to visit one day, I will be happy to meet you there or feel free to drop-in on your own.

Good luck,

T.

I don't know where you live but I'd love for you to visit our church. FBC, The Colony--we're a medium-sized church where everyone knows most everyone but we have all the opportunities that the large churches would offer. We just started a "single moms" group on Tues nights. For 5 year olds, we have sunday school, special children's worship, choir, Awanas, RA's and Mission Friends along with all of our special events for holidays. If you're interested in visiting our church, I could meet you at the door and take you where you need to go and introduce you to people. It's awesome that you're answering the call in your life to bring God and church into your life!! L.
