Seeking Summer Tutoring for My Struggling 5 Year Old

Questions have been raised about my 5 year old continuing on to the first grade. He is struggling with his letter recognition amoung other things. When he counts 20 he always forgets 16 and 17. I was wondering if anyone new of any summer programs that offer intense academic progress for him. We live on the West side of Indianapolis. He attends a private school, but they do not offer anything for the summer. I'm willing to drive the distance. I'm hoping I will not have to hold him back.

What can I do next?

I think any teacher and most parents would agree it is better to send your child to another year of kindergarten than having them always be behind. If your child is always just a little behind the other children it can be so frustrating and upsetting for them and even carry on up to the high school years. Repeating a year of preschool or kindergarten is so common, and is the best age for a child to repeat a class if all they need is a little extra time. My personal opinion is to not get your 5 year old all worked up with a tutor and too much pressure to do what the other children his a age are doing, and just talk to his kindergarten teacher about doing another year.

Hello E....

I would take a look at Learning Rx. Learning Rx is not tutoring, but instead Cognitive Skill training. My son struggled with many areas and we determined it was due to Cognitive Deficiency rather than learning abilities. It has been a tremendous help. I know they are having a summer program, but I do not know what it is. They are located in Carmel.
