Hello,

My 8 1/2 month old daughter is teething, and I wanted to know what are some ways to relieve her gums. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I love Hyland's Teething Tablets. You can find them at most drug stores and grogery stores. They seem to be cheapest at Target though. Worked great for us and are totally safe.

I would take blueberries, peas, and carrots out of the freezer and let my daughter eat them. If they were to big and I thought it might be a choking problem I would cut them in half or 1/4s but she LOVED them. She got a serving of fruits and veggies AND they helped soothe her gums. Once she is interested in picking things up and feeding herself try stripping her down to her diaper, putting her in her highchair and taking an ice tray and filling it up with little treats. IE 2 with cheerios, 2 with blueberries, 2 with bananas, 2 with peas, 2 with orange slices torn into small enough pieces. My daughter LOVED feeding herself, it kept her busy and happy while I did house work and clean up was a breeze, just throw her in the tub after :-) Good luck taking care of your wonderful blessing.

my daughter teethed on pickels. There is something soothing in them....once she got teeth, had to take them away until she had enough teeth to chew them. SHE LOVES PICKELS NOW!

Hi Pam,

I am a daycare provider and have alot of 3 year olds. When they were teething 3 of my parents of these children would give their kids Hyland's Teething Tablets and they worked wonders. They are very small tablets and just put 3 tablets under the child's tongue and let them desolve. They are natural so they won't hurt your daughter. The children that took them here were on cloud nine when I told them it was time for their teething tablets. The parent's got these at CVS Pharmacy or you can buy them online. Hope this helps. It was a God send for us!!!

Hyland's teething tablets helped us a lot. Also, you can get a strainer at Target for fruits and vegetables that is made to chew on. You can put frozen food in there, or even just plain ice. Good luck!

Hi pam,

my son uses the teething tablets also. But there is one more thing i used. I have a mesh feeder it is a little hand held thing you can open and put fruit or whatever in so that they cant choke on stuff. I put ice in it and he just loved it and still does! But i put apples and grapes and just whatever in it so he gets the juice and no pieces. Good luck we all know its not fun!!!!

Good old Motrin always works for me but I only do that at night so maybe they can sleep a little better. If you don't want to medicate during the day there are tons of other things you can do. I always kept teething rings in the refrigerator and when I thought teething was bothering my kids I would give them one of those. There is also baby Orajel that I had too but only used it a handful of times. If you shop at Kroger there are a few things in the baby aisle that help with teething.

Frozen waffles & frozen french fries.
They chew on them , and the cold soothes their gums. The waffle or french fry will absorb the excess drool.

hey my daughter has been teething since she was 4 months so i have had a time with it. lol. but the best thing i have found is to give her some tylenol or ib prophen. my doc said not to give her orajel, and someone said that it's because it can numb their mouth so much that they don't swallow their spit right. so what ever the reason for no orajel i just steered clear of it! another thing i did was gave her a cold teething ring (from the fridge, not the freezer. so she could bite down on it). and freezing a wash cloth is good too so that she could get it back to the back of the mouth better. hope it helps
