Any other young moms out there with multiple sclerosis. I have a good friend in need of finding a support group. She has a 10yr old and a 3 yr old; newly diagnosed. Anyone know of support groups for this??

What can I do next?

Hi K. :)

I have a friend who HAD M.S. Yes, I said HAD. M.S. is something that can be turned around. Ann, my friend, is incredible!!! She has since become a fantastic and extremely busy doctor. She has written a book and has just completed a taping with Montel Williams, who also has M.S. I will list her website below. You can order her book through there as well, if you'd like. But first, please impress upon your friend the importance of her inner power and the true capability she has to help heal herself- even if it's just by the thoughts she has. May they all be Light-filled and strengthening for her. She's lucky to have a special friend like you who is there to love her and care about her :)

Blessings to you both and to her family.

Hi,
I saw the request and I had to write. I am a Mom with MS. I've had it for about 12 years or so. I also have two children almost 10 and a 6 year old. The kids are very active and keep me quite busy. MS has never slowed me down from doing what I want to do. I don't let it rule my life or decide my life path based on what may or could happen. Heck, I could be hit by a bus tomorrow...so I want to live my life to it's fullest potential even with the diagnosis of MS. It is a scary thing but it doesn't have to be life changing. Get a good doctor who can direct her in the best course of treatment. She should begin one right away. Depending on how her "episodes" have been she may not want to be in a support group. My doctors have told me not to because it can be very depressing to see what the outcome is for others. Everyone's MS is VERY different. Some have it to the extreme right away, some have very little or no symptoms at all.
I wouldn't decide right away about a support group what I would decide first is on the right doctor. Let them tell you what the next course of action is then go from there. All I can suggest is to never give up or let the disease run her life. Anyone can help her with that.
Get educated about the different medications that are offered and get on one. She will feel so much better taking an active part in her treatment and knowing that it will help her.
I have a wonderful doctor if she needs a recommendation. I will be glad to offer any help, advice, or support your friend may need.
I just want her to know that I'm a very busy Mom to my two daughters and I'm doing very well. I run both daughters Girl Scout troops, take them both to softball every week, art classes, and playdates with friends and I work PT. It doesn't have to change your life. It can give you a new meaning for life and help you to appreciate every opportunity that comes your way.
Hope this helps...
Take Care
E.

Hi K.,

The National MS Society is a great resource for those who are newly diagnosed. They can offer counseling as well as connect your friend with a support group that matches her needs. They also offer many activities and physical programs to get her involved and moving along with others living with MS. She can find her local chapter at www.nationalmssociety.org.
