Severe Nausea Causing Depression

hi everyone
I'm 7 weeks pregnant with my second child and I am miserably sick. I was sick with my first child, but not like this. After the birth of my daughter I developed PPD and was treated with heavy meds- it worked! It's hard for me to get off the couch to make my daughter a drink; the nausea is so debiliating. My husband is wonderful but he has to work. I'm on 100mg zoloft but I'm struggling. The constant nausea makes the depression worse. Any advice?

What can I do next?

I know how strange this sounds but...when I was pregnant with my first I was so sick and nothing helped. I finally was able to combat it with...ready...YooHoo! I know it sounds really strange but it worked! I couldn't hold food down and lost 35 pounds when I was pregnant with my son, 25 with my daughter. The only thing that would settle my stomach was Yoohoo, it had to be in the carton, not glass and warm or room temp was best. Hope this helps!

I did acupuncture once a week for the first 20 weeks, when I was carrying my twins and never had any morning sickness at all (which is very unusual with twins). It can be expensive though 40-50 a session but some insurance companies cover it. hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry you are so sick. I feel your pain! I was soooo sick with my only daughter that I"m not sure I even want to try pregnancy again. I can't imagine going though it with a toddler. I'm not sure if these will help you but I have heard wonderful things about Preggy Pops. It might be worth a try. They are lollipops that are supposed to stop nausea.

First of all if you are pregnant you need to get off of the antidepresants before it harms your baby. The next thing that I would suggest is Pray to God to help you overcome the depresion. It does work and I know because I went in and out of depression since I was 14 years old. Now I am a home business owner with 3 boys and a husband that is almost non-stop working. As for the nausia I would suggest ginger ale or 7 up or sprite with saltine crackers. God bless you and take care of yourself and those cildren.

I can testify that, even with small children, it's possible to beat deppression without medication. I would really examine whether the meds are good for your pregnancy and maybe worsening your nausea? There are so many great things you can do for yourself--get really good, healthy food in the house, take short, gentle walks with your daughter, go to some free groups where she can play and you can get mom-support (the county libraries down here are great), and I absolutely agree that pregnancy massage or acupuncture can help immensely!

Take care of yourself--it will be the best gift you can give your husband and your kids!

You poor thing, I was sick morning, noon and night with my first and I too was miserable, I wondered what on earth I'd let myself in for. Mine seemed to be a lot of acid, it would build up in my stomach so when I did try to eat it was so irritated nothing would stay down. My Doc said I could use over the counter Zantac and it did the trick in no time, no more sickness at all. I don't know if your symtoms are the same but if they are then give it a try or talk to your Doc about it. They should be able to do something to help you. Out of interest can you stay on Zoloft right through the 3rd trimester. I too have suffered from depression since the birth of my son,I take Effexor, we would like to have another child but I'm not sure I want to put my family or myself through me off the meds. I did take Zoloft originally so if I could take that during the pregnancy it would help. I also take meds for high blood pressure and I'm 36 so a high risk pregnancy all together.

Take care and I hope the sickess passes soon or someone you are able to get some relief:-) stay strong.

There's a prescription medication for the nausea... Or- my doctor told me I could take benedryl once a day at night for the nausea. (It dries up any fluid in the inner-ear...) Tell your doctor your situation and get those meds. for nausea!

In the long run antidepressants compound the problem since they further impair the body's ability to regulate neurotransmitters. You need holistic/alternative physicians who can help you work with nutrition (diet, supplements, herbs) and energy medicine (acupuncture, reiki, vibrational medicine, homeopathy, etc.) to rebalance your system. Antidepressants are also dangerous for growing fetuses. To learn about alternative mental health resources visit my site at: www.phinsights.com/links.html

I was very sick with my first daughter as well, I lost 20 pounds during the first 6 months I was pregnant. The only thing that helped was Zofran. I still got sick sometimes but it helped me function. My Dr prescribed it and said it was very safe to use, plus I used it during both of my pregnancies and both of my girls are healthly at 3 and 6 now. I hope this helps! Good Luck and Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I was violently ill with my second child. My doc gave me Zofran. It worked miracles!

I haven't read all the responses, but you sound alot like I felt. I was VERY sick with both of mine. The first one I thought was bad enough, but #2 was worse.. because I couldn't "do" for our son. My doc prescribed Zofran and while it did NOT make the nausea go away completely, it eased it enough that I was able to EAT and FUNCTION. My husband was able to go back to work. My 2 1/2 yr old son could come home from Gramma's and I could take showers again. Laying in bed trying to sleep for relief is very depressing in it's own right... forget all the other reasons you might feel down. Please check with your Doc about some Zofran... getting up and about, being able to feel "human" and going out in public or for a walk and a little sunshine can help a great deal. If you still need some meds beyond that... then you need them. But the nausea is an underlying factor that you may be able to do something about. Give it a try if you can.

I also took Zofran for nausea with my second pregnancy. I'm not sure if the nausea was worse the second time or just felt like it b/c I had a 2 1/2 year old. Anyway, I tried all the tricks and home remedies and only the Zofran worked. I didn't like to take meds. but this really helped and I was assured it was safe. My daughter was born perfectly healthy and is now growing faster than I can believe. She was 16 months old on Sat.
I'm so sorry you are feeling terrible. I hope that you can find some relief and get through this time quickly :>) Hang in there !
