Hi all,
Im a single mom living in the Santa Clarita Valley and I am wondering if anyone might know of any resources for "back to school" help. I have a 9 year old son that will be going into the 4th grade this Thursday and I have not been able financially to get the things that he needs(shoes, clothes, school supplies..etc) to begin the new school year. We have had quite a tough year so far and I was hoping that by this time I would have been able to get him the things that he needs, unfortunatly I haven't. I know that Im down to the last couple days and Im not sure if I will find any help but I thought it couldn't hurt to post and see if someone sees this that might know of something or somewhere I can turn.
Thank you in advance for any help with this and for taking the time to read my post.

I'm a single Mom in Santa Clarita too! I know it gets tough and this kind of stuff is challenging. A few weeks ago, there were three churchs who gave away stuff to kids who needed school supplies.
What I would do is call the local city office and see if there are any resources that you can utilize to help get school supplies...there was a school drive happening. Or you could also call his school and see if they can suggest some place locally.
I just Googled this and found an article in the Signal, you might want to call the local Boys and Girls Club and explain the issue.

What my Mom used to do for us over the summer was buy one piece of stuff every payday and that way by the time school came we had stuff. You could try Wal-Mart as they seem to have cheaper prices on things like backpacks and shoes.
Good Luck, and please let me know if you end up needing stuff. I have some friends with older kids who might be recycling stuff.
Did you check with his school district or his actual school to see if you qualify for any help? I have read in the Signal before about programs for kids going back to school whose parents need help with supplies.
We are having a pretty tough year too, but I would love to help you if I can. Let me know. Good luck.
Hi W.,
I see you have gotten a lot of info on where to get free school supplies for your son. That is great! I wanted to tell you about a couple things that I have been doing the last year to save money when buying groceries and to make money.
Contact me if you are interested and I'll tell you more about it all.

Hi W.,
I'm so sorry for your struggle financially right!
Tell me what size in shoes and clothes and maybe a few of the school items you need and I will pray about tonight and make some calls. No promises but our GOD is bigger that our needs and that is what HE is there for- to call on!!

Grace Baptist Church on Copperhill took up a collection for backpacks and other things full of items needed for school. There is no obligation we just think WWJD (what would Jesus Do) If you email me back I will give you all the information.

Hi W.
You and your son are in my prayers. I am also a single mom and understand how hard it is to raise a little one. I usually go to walmart, target for my sons clothes, but wanted to ask you what his size was in shoes, and clothes. I can check with a few family members and friends to see if we could round up somethings. Please let me know if you still need somethings.
God Bless
Hi W.,
Mom mom had mentioned that her church was doing a back to school time giveaway of backpacks, supplies etc. I don't know too much about it, or if it's happened yet or not but she goes to "In His Presence Church" in Canoga Park. Their ph. # is ###-###-####. I will keep you and your family in prayer. I know that God wants to meet all of your needs over and above all that you can ask or think!!! My husband and I had met a Pastor and his wife on a plane a few years back and their church is in Santa Clarita (Valencia), it's called Burning Bush Church. Their ph. # ###-###-####. They were wonderful peple who really love the Lord! I lovingly encourage you and your son to attend church and learn how much God loves you and that He has an awesome plan for your life which includes financial prosperity!
Please keep us posted if you are not able to get all of what your son needs for school!
Be blessed,
K.

What size does your son wear? (clothes, shoes, etc- in what it is he needs) Does his school let him wear "regular" clothes or is there a "uniform" type of rrquirement? I think that some schools, even if public require kids to wear "uniform" style clothes. Let me know please!! K.
HI W.. I'm sorry to hear about your struggles as a single parent. Here is a link and # for the "Single Mother's Outreach" program in Santa Clarita. Santa Clarita, CA 91321
Our offices are accessed via the rear of the Los Angeles County Service Center building. Take the staircase or elevator to the 2nd floor. Our office is located in the first room on the left as you enter the building.

Also, the Santa Clarita Food Bank is located on the old San Fernando rd. I see people going there to get food all the time. You may want to look that up. For cheap clothing (that is if you have any money to spare) I recommend Children's Orchard in Saugus on Boquest Canyon in the Vons Parking lot. VERY inexpensive clothes up to size 12 I believe. You can get shirts, etc....for just a few bucks. There is also the Goodwill on Boquest Canyon at the corner of Seco. They always have kids clothes, shoes, etc.... for very cheap.
Best of luck to you.
